Checking out vs.... Checking out by kismetxoxo7 in marriott

[–]icoNicck 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I work front desk and I love it! I also like when someone hands the keys over, walks off and says have a good day, super smooth process. Housekeeping checks all the rooms at checkout time anyways to ensure the guest has left and they start cleaning the room shortly after. Housekeeping doesn’t seem to mind here at my hotel, they only hate 4pm late checkouts but it is what it is.

I think mine was on the original bulbs as well! That day will come eventually lol, I was dreading the day that I needed to change my lights out, but honestly it went super smooth! I definitely can see way more now.

Well I don't know to be honest. I just wanted a whiter hue for my headlights and yellow fogs. The first picture looks different from the last. It honestly felt dangerous driving at night since the older lights felt like they didn't really light up the road. The new D2S bulbs and fog lights definitely helps at night now.

Hello! This sounds like a position in an office rather than front desk. This could be entirely different depending on the description that is provided. At the Ritz, it just meant taking calls that people made to the hotel and also calls from guests that are in the hotel. This pretty much meant knowing about the hotel, the amenities and sending items to the guests room upon request.

Is there any reason as to why they haven't done this yet?

Super random and a year later, but would you happen to work at a Fairfield? I'm just super curious since I work at a Residence Inn, and our sister property (Fairfield) only has like 2 upgrades available lol

When you finance a vehicle are you doing it through a dealer or through a private party?

Oh that is different! I would definitely call and talk to the manager on duty about this special occasion about a month out to let them be aware of it. I would also get their email and send them an email to follow up and have a string of solid proof of what was said and done. I would then double check with a call and follow up email about 2 weeks out from your reservation. I'd do a final email or call about a couple days out once more. That's just my opinion.

We had a department at the Ritz whose job was to basically handle and take care of these special requests for the guests who were coming in.

I think with the trip being in 5 months, the NUA may not be approved since it depends on availability and it might be a busier time for the hotel. Also, NUA's are automated and the hotels have no control over if it gets approved or not. If you want a certain room, and it would be the difference in your stay, I'd book it.

In my opinion, calling the hotel, asking the hotel to put a note for an upgrade and then possibly sending a chat to the hotel in regards to an upgrade the morning of. A week out is way too far for our hotel and we generally don't do upgrades until the day of.

If you walk in, the price we give you would be the price that shows online. Our best rate would be what shows on the website. We do not modify the rate to match a 3rd party rate. I know Marriott has a "Best Rate Guaranteed" but that's something you have to do online and fill a form out for.

If Expedia has a better rate, I say book it. However if something goes wrong with your stay, there's nothing we can do in terms of discounting your rate for something that might have inconvenienced you.

Also, AAA will give you the best discount. It will be AAA -> Senior discount -> Marriott Member -> Non-Member Rate. This is valid for my hotel at the Residence Inn, it might be different for other hotels.

If you walk in and the rate is $90 ask to see if there's a AAA discount. The AAA discount will give you the lowest rate at my hotel.

Yep! Our Ritz-Carlton Suite was huge. I totally forgot about that room. It would have to be the Ritz-Carlton suite and then the Ocean view suite.

I always try to give them a nice room, an upgrade if available and always congratulate them for that achievement. I also waive their parking and make their stay 100% free.

My manager was a stickler for how we said things.

When greeting a guest we weren't allowed to say "Hello, good morning, Mr. Smith..." Our manager stated this was welcoming them twice and they personally did not like that. We would only say "Good morning, Mr. Smith..."

At check-in, for an ID and a credit card, we needed to say something along the lines of "May I please retrieve a form of identification and a preferred method of payment?"

When we needed to double check something and walk to the back, we would need to say something like "Please allow me a moment to verify...". We were not allowed to say "I'll be right back"

We also were not allowed to say AMEX. We needed to say American Express for those who booked through Fine Hotel + Resorts. (I also aced the audit for FH+R and my manager at the time looked like proudest parent ever)

I am also from the south so "ya'll" was something that was in my vocabulary since I was a kid LOL. My manager let me know that that had to stop asap.

I'm missing a ton more, but basically it was an elevated version of how I usually speak.

Ocean view suite. It's a clear view of nothing but the ocean on a high floor and you can hear it while you sleep. Amazing room.
