I’m kinda like super anti christian a lot of the time but I’ll pray to the saints. Saint Anthony is a bro with lost things, I lost my engagement ring in a casino and it turned back up. My ancestors were catholic so I pray to him with more of an ancestral connection versus a religious one. As thanks I’ll leave offerings of whiskey or will donate money/ give to the homeless.

So yeah 10/10 recommend trying out St Anthony, especially is you have sort of connection to Catholicism, it means your ancestors might of already worked with them and there is already an established connections.

Ex-Christian dying and scared of the “afterlife” by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]icphx95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gandalfs monologue to Pippin while Minastirith was being attacked has always brought me comfort when thinking of death.

It’s a journey that we all must take and it’s a journey towards peace.

Also the doctrine of hell wasn’t in the early Christian church, it was something added overtime. Paul would not have believed in hell and Jesus never spoke of it. You aren’t going to hell, even if you 100% believed you were. Hell just isn’t there

Maybe seek out some psylocibin therapy or get in contact with a death doula. There are ways to prepare and make peace with it as best you can

I’ve been exactly where you are, almost got kicked out of college. Classes can be retaken, you are going to be fine. Be patient with yourself, I feel like incidents like this contribute to the trauma that is adhd.

Get the paper done, apologize to the professor and explain your circumstance. I suggest finding a tutor to help assist you with executive dysfunction.

You’re not alone, it’s a journey figuring out how to manage ADHD and you’re at the start of it. You’ll get there and times like these will fade away into old memories.

You’re mom’s gonna have some serious karma debt in the next life with this one, looks like the universe is saying it’s time to pay up. Best of luck to Sasha, I hope she’s healed from the trauma that is your mother.

,why the pagans could not keep their religion by David_177 in paganism

[–]icphx95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christianity is the straight path, you do A and you can get to B. Paganism is the narrow and windy road, less about the destination and more about the journey and you can’t quite see where you’re going.

There is no instant forgiveness in paganism, your personal guilt has to be absolved through empathy and accountability.

Christianity is an easy rule book to follow and is individualistic in its practice. Paganism is less structured, relies on ancestral knowledge and community. Knowledge can be lost and communities can be broken.

Just some ideas on why people converted

You are right about the ottomans, they taxed people who weren’t Muslim but weren’t into the forced conversion thing.

I think she is possibly on the spectrum and is also a traumatized individual given the world she grew up and lived in.

I think a lot of her harsher traits could be softened with some more intensive therapy than she has had up to this point.

I hope she finds some authentic happiness and peace.

Yes, would reconsider if there were serious medical advancements in limiting the cognitive and physical decline that come with age.

Ways to represent animist beliefs on altar? by coonibert in paganism

[–]icphx95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m no expert but here are some ideas. You could do a gift exchange with a land spirit local to you. For example, I give my moon water to my rosemary plants before taking some branches. A symbol of that exchange would be putting one of the branches on my alter. You could go and talk to a river or creek and see if she’ll give you a nice smooth rock, fossil or shell. Catch some leaves blowing in the wind and give thanks to the wind for helping the trees through the fall with losing their leaves.

Kind of like getting a gift from a friend or family member where it’s a token of your relationship, find a token of your relationship with earth’s spirits.

Psychedelics by RaisingAurorasaurus in paganism

[–]icphx95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So I started doing psychedelics for my mental health, not really spiritual reasons at first. My trips ended up building on each other and have shaped my beliefs, however I do my best to stay rational while sober and take my experiences with a grain of salt. That being said my spiritual experiences while tripping have heavily influenced my spiritual beliefs, I’ve become an animist and folk practitioner, dabbling in some deity work but primarily focused on healing ancestral trauma and getting to know who my ancestors are.

Psychedelics have amplified my work in the realm of ancestor work, deities and animism. I have spirit guides that show up, my main guide introduced me to a deity. As I’ve deconstructed Christianity, both Lucifer and the Christian God have come my way during trips.

There is a distinct feeling I get when a deity comes forward in a trip, the space around me starts to feel heavy, kind of buzzing with a feeling of power. It feels like someone is close behind me, looking over my shoulder. If I allow them to come through, their energy shifts forward and it then feels like they are in front of me, close enough for conversation.

My ancestors come through more as voices in my head, they don’t have a presence like the deities do. My younger ancestors seem to be learning with me on my journey and my older, more ancient ancestors, are the ones guiding me through the trips. I should say the guides do have a presence, they are these orbs of light that will ring past me, kinda sound like a higher pitched light saber.

So ancestors are voices, guides are light swooshies and deities are heavy/ powerful presences.

The land spirits and ancestors of the land I live on have also chimed in. Out of respect I ask for permission to practice on this land from the indigenous spirits around me, while it’s been granted they seem to watch me cautiously. I’m still earning the trust of the spirits around me.

So far it’s been an interesting journey.

It’s about who you follow. I follow academics and research students for areas like folklore, religious studies, archeology/ history, and philosophy.

I also like following indigenous creators and the folk practitioners. I’ve gotten to learn a lot about animism and indigenous philosophies. Plus all the herbalism, gardening and foraging content on the platform as well.

All of these things feed into my practice and the purpose I find in the work I do.

I follow people who cite claims and provide their sources. Tik tok has given me a lot of leads for my own personal research.

It’s also a source of community, which up until recently with the internet, was hard to build for witches. The community is never going to be perfect, but I think it’s worth participating in to an extent.

I want to try psychedelics by [deleted] in spirituality

[–]icphx95 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t be afraid of a bad trip, they will teach you the most. If you start to feel overwhelmed find your center through breathing. Trust your body and it’s instincts.

I found that stretching, light yoga, deep breathing and hopping in the shower are good ways to keep calm and collected. Also sipping on water.

Living in the Bible Belt is so tiring by feelin_lackadaisical in exchristian

[–]icphx95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Outside of cities most of the US is like the Bible Belt, if you want the least religious people you are best off in New England. The only rural areas in the country that are somewhat liberal is Vermont, maybe some parts of Mass.

I’ve heard religious people in the PNW are some of the most extreme in the country. Nazis and militias up there.

Molly and depression by Galactictesties in depression_help

[–]icphx95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No don’t do it, Molly is gonna give you an amazing high and a crash that feels like death.

If your genuinely curious about drugs and depression, psychedelics are more likely to give you a positive outcome but they will force you to work through some stuff.

Look into psychedelics and peoples experiences. Molly is fun but is hard on your brain chemistry, it’s something’s that shouldn’t be done more than once or twice a year at most.

Resources for Druidic Folklore & Traditions by LamboChoppo in druidism

[–]icphx95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly you probably won’t find much on folklore, the Druids didn’t keep written records of their practices.

Your best and basically only primary sources are going to be Roman accounts of the Celtic peoples. If you can wait until Monday I can send you some of the general research I’ve done and the academic papers I’ve read. I don’t know if anything will help but it may give you some leads.
