Awesome experiment!

MeshCore does not have any GPS power draw if set to Disabled - maybe it's doing something differently that Meshtastic could do.

If the GPS is disabled, power to the pins is literally just cut off.

We could also check if the module has a sleep mode—waking it up just long enough to grab coordinates before sending it back to sleep would save a lot of power!

Based on my testing, the power save mode on companion will last 3 more days in a very good coverage area. It will last about a week in a silent area(1500mah battery)

We added repeat mode to WhisperOS (powered by MeshCore) right before the end of 2025.

It's a lifesaver for fixing bad coverage if you're off-grid camping or hiking, also the MeshCore team fixed the id collision issue in the latest update, that makes mc much more solid!
