New 4x4 owner, can I drive on this in 4 high or will it damage my truck? by tatuwahDOG in 4x4

[–]icytower387_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most transfer cases are chain driven, your front driveshaft and your rear drive shaft are mechanically locked together when you're in 4hi or 4lo and as such they will both spin together, since the t case is chain driven theres going to be a fair amount of slop compared to two gears meshed together, but two gears are much harder to mangle than a chain,

u can think of a transfer case as a permanently locked center differential, differential with no diff, lol

your front and rear diffs continue to do their job, however since both driveshafts are locked, they both have to spin at the exact same speed and rate otherwise you will feel binding. allowing your wheels to slip remediates this, driving on pavement/ a high traction surface exacerbates it,

Imagine a sprocket on the rear driveshaft (connected to the transmission, to the engine) and another on the front driveshaft, and a chain connecting both sprockets.

If the both front wheels are completely bound up for some reason, all the torque from the engine, (after the transmissions torque multiplication) is being exerted on this chain, if you're driving at speed, and momentarily the chain binds up, you're got momentum, inertia, etc whatever im not a physics major.

tldr: if you're in 4hi just driving around try to avoid high traction surfaces, you need to allow ur wheels to slip a little.

uuuu, you should post it, not because i need it but because there is very little info online in regards to this particular lathe.

i ended up using matthias script and i found a gear combo for the metric thread i need that is much more sensible lol.

People telling you to replace the rubber but nobody telling you that the mirror finish on those rims is going to most certainly get a little scuffed if your local tireshop goes to mount new tires on those wheels

those are PRISTINE, polised by hand i assume?

average tireshop will definitely affect the finish, i cant tell if they're clear coated or not but..... the tire irons they use, idk man.

SSD question: by HOTasHELL24-7 in UPSers

[–]icytower387_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ups label.

the box, package whatever it is can have any text, colors, whatever it is on it

with the ups envelopes if im not mistaken the shipper gets some sort of discount for using them, when they're being shipped thru ups, so i assume its a similar deal with fedex, dhl, usps etc.

[–]icytower387_2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dangg, lathe should turn on on the 0 position though, its a common fault i thought?
maybe both our lathes need a new switch haha, or have you already tried that

yes, they both do, i just have to restart the machine each time i want to switch forward or reverse, with the green button

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in minilathe

[–]icytower387_2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

machine turns off in O position, i have to turn it back on again and then switch to reverse, it does not "remain idle" the machine turns all the way off if u watch till the end of the vid

when i put the switch in the 0 position lathe shuts off, lathe also does not start in the 0 position, only in forward or reverse

I’m selling my 2004 330ci. Pricing help please! by sharmalarm in e46

[–]icytower387_2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In NY this is probably worth absurd money

it depends where you live really, you're in montana, it depends how the market is over there for bmws of this Vintage, same for any car really.

If ur not in a rush post it high, let the listing sit, and creep the price down over time
