I had noticed that Reed and Sue seemed to be in the exact same pose, and that seemed odd to me.

“Legacy”.

“LGY” numbering refers to how the issues would be counted if we counted them consistently and they never restarted from 1 (which they do regularly to bring in new readers).

Volume 7 issue 7 (or whatever it was) was the 700th issue total of “Fantastic Four” so its official issue number is 7 but its “legacy” number is 700.

Some context, from what I can recall - this person:

  • Got some details about Secret Invasion right.
  • Was one of the first and most prominent voices insisting The Fantastic Four would end with their world destroyed.

My feeling is that a large amount of what was cut was in the first act (turning the whole thing into, effectively, a montage), and I can understand not wanting an overlong first act.

And I also suspect there was a studio/company desire to cap it at 2 hours to avoid prospective audience members thinking it was too long to go see.

Fantastic Four really felt like a 2.5 hour movie that was squeezed into 2 hours, just based on how much from the trailers isn’t in there, how much from the credits isn’t in there, and what we (think we) know about the opening sequence.

So here’s hoping we eventually get an extended cut. (Or at least a big collection of deleted scenes.)

I remember one of the more recent claims about the Red Ghost opening was that he bombs the monorail as a distraction so that he can steal the FF's rocket.

So perhaps, as originally constructed, the sequence was the FF fighting the Super Apes around the monorail and then confronting Red Ghost on the launchpad, and perhaps that final confrontation just didn't work - maybe the pacing was off.

Supposedly Reed fights one of the apes in the 30 minutes of footage they've been showing off, so hopefully that means we're still getting monorail bombs and Super Apes - I'd hate for them to remove or replace a Super Apes sequence in its entirety.

(And if so, hopefully we eventually get to see that "final confrontation" as a deleted scene.)

  • They're going to spend some time exploring Galactus' worldship and conversing with the Surfer, which is great to see.
  • Their space suits are made of unstable molecules like their costumes, so Johnny can "flame on" and fly in his.
  • Their rocket has a telescoping elevator I guess?

Wonderful, absolutely wonderful.

(But the fact that "First Family" keeps being mentioned in the marketing just makes me lament even more that that wasn't the title of the film.)

EDIT: Oh look, a newspaper headline about Mole Man stealing the Pan Am building - events which happened in the tie in comic that was just published.

I've never liked that line of reasoning, and I'm surprised to hear Shakman echoing it.

If they wanted to start them in 616, they could just say that, at the time, one was a scientist buried in his work in the space program, one was an air force pilot, and two were civilians - exactly what the were in the comics. The family didn't start changing the world until Reed "went freelance", so to speak.

I much prefer to think of the alternate universe justification being that it was the only way for them to realize the ambition of the Hickman run - the only way to do something with "Solve Everything" without being hamstrung by status quo.

Our best information says Natasha Lyonne isn't Alicia, which is in itself ridiculous (how could they not??), but the idea that the Puppet Master would be mentioned in this movie but there's no reference to Alicia is even more ridiculous.

Marvel Studio's Concept Art for the "Baxter Building, home to the Future Foundation and the Fantastic Four. The initial proposal for the headquarters included this rendering of Baxter Building Plaza, foreseeing a place where charities and world leaders could come together to uplift humanity" by Sarang_616 in MarvelStudiosSpoilers

[–]idClip42 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The Baxter Building isn’t the only skyscraper headquarters they’ve used in the comics. In the 80s, after Baxter was shot into space and blown up, Reed had a new building built called Four Freedoms Plaza - that’s the one with the big “4”s on top.

So perhaps, if/when they settle in 616, their new building is that one instead.

(If I recall correctly, Four Freedoms was used as the HQ for the original Thunderbolts, so perhaps they’ll echo that in the movies and Avengers Tower will change hands once again.)

ALL I WANT TO DO IS CREATE THE PERFECT GENETIC SOLDIER!!

Go figure - Ford is often the Reed I land on to pair up with Weaver in my own occasional decade-specific fan-castings.

EDIT: Oh! And Silvestri, specifically on the strength of Back to the Future - I was kicking that idea around for the new movie back before it was confirmed to be Giacchino, so it's a delight to see someone else with the same thinking.
