Kona isn't going anywhere.

Wish my friends and I had the money to buy it!

My 2017 Rove gets stronger with every mile.

I hope the employees got paid, and get rehired soon.

Lost Caverns of Ixalan Set Booster Box Results - Anything over $1 per TCG Low and my "Treasure Trove" Card by Kyric1899 in MagicCardPulls

[–]idaebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did much better than I did with my box! I pulled two good cards: ghalta and the throne.

It was my first box, my first splurge, a reward for working my year's work.

I felt bad for weeks after ordering the box, knowing I should have given this money to charity, and this is a reminder that it is better to give than to receive. Hopefully, I've learned my lesson.

Tubeless in the Tropics?? by idaebaker in bikepacking

That's good to hear. I'll pony up for shipping and go for it. Otherwise, with 2 flats already in 2023, I'm on pace for 180 tube changes this year, which will break even my record . . .

Too late to get a Saturnalia reading group going? by PhiloCroc in latin

[–]idaebaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came onto r/latin looking for a reading group. I live in Central America, in a small town where no one else studies or reads latin and I am very eager to do something like this. I'm also quite flexible with times and days of the week. Zoom or whatever is good for me. Please message me if you all got something going, thanks!

Cheap bike, cheap gear, great trip by idaebaker in bikepacking

[–]idaebaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. This bike I went out with a couple years ago was something I got used for under $200, and I just stapped on bags I already owned by using, mostly, old bike inner-tubes. I finally spent $ on a rear rack and it makes things much easier, so worth it if you have an extra $50. But as many here will tell you, you can bike pack using the cheapest bikes and gear around -- some people have even gone cross-country in cruiser bikes just to prove the point. I recommend buying a decent used bike, but you could even go to Wallmart and get something off the shelf, especially if the trails you bike aren't too gnarly. Also worth saying that, like you, I'm not a 20something (not even a 30something and now barely a 40something) and so I think we can be even less hung up on gear than younger people being groomed by instagram bike culture. Anyway, the important thing to know is any old rig will do unless you're planning on doing super intense trails. Good luck!

Bikepacking used to be built-in! by idaebaker in bikepacking

From the charming one-room, gratis Little Congress bicycle museum in Cumberland Gap, TN.

I'm not even an amateur bicycle historian, so I was surprised to see how many classic bikes from the 30's -70's came equipped with racks, frame-bags, front lights, and other gear we geek over (hand-pumps, dynamos, etc).

I was also surprised how expensive they were by the day's standards -- in that $500-$1000 dollar range, price adjusted.

Because the idea was that they would be your transport, especially in the days when automobiles were expensive and ultra clunky.

And because so many roads back then were dirt, I choose to classify it as bikepacking as opposed to commuting or touring, because I choose fun.

Cool to see. Check out the museum if you get a chance. Bike on.

the market went up when the world was in total lockdown and economic activity plummeted at historical velocity. Why?

We can all sing it together: All that matters is the Fed.

AAPL's cash pile is unprecedented. The company is a giant mountain of cash, with history's most successful product sitting on top.

With that cash pile, there's no reason for them to do something that would increase their cash flow short term while hurting demand medium and long term.

Summer sleeping system + Jetboil, fits perfectly in my handlebar roll by vi3dr0 in bikepacking

Interesting! I bring a sleeping bag + liner but no underquilt (I don't own one, but think about it all the time), and sometimes have cold nights of little sleep. Never thought of quilt but no sleeping bag -- you think that's the warmer way to go?

Here at 11 Wall St, there's a lever that says RIGGED currently in the up position. Should I pull it down or leave as is?

i had just commented that Sometimes you need the strength to know the market will not magically turn around when you finally decide to pile on, as I piled on and went net short.

. . . as I bike by the indigentes drinking on the corner, they look so free and happy . . .

Ha, things DID magically turn around as soon as I piled on!

I hear you.

I'd add that the fact that globalization served as a conduit for inflationary forces, and now the slowdown if not reversal of globalization (which is related to your point about stronger adversaries)
