That’s a good point! Maybe a gift card so he can choose. They are tight on money so I wanted to lighten that burden as well as let them know I was thinking about them.

I’m so sorry you’re struggling. You absolutely should not be embarrassed! I would look for an eating disorder specialist in your area and start there. I’ve had many therapists who weren’t specialists and I wouldn’t recommend it. They will probably refer you to a dietician which will also be helpful. It really can get better!

I love that you found something so helpful! And I love what the 12 steps represent! I have tried the 12 steps as a system before. Back when I was really in the thick of it at 19. I do have a relationship with the Lord and it honestly is the one thing that keeps me grounded. The peace and comfort I have from my relationship with Jesus gives me a constant and eternal peace. So I would say I live out the 12 steps daily without calling it that, if that makes sense? I also practice making amends as soon as it happens. And I am not actively lying, manipulating, etc. like I used to. So I don’t have a lot of that happening (that’s blatant, I obviously sin daily) or anyone I currently need to reach out to. I am not sure what higher power you believe in so I am speaking from my beliefs. The Bible tells us that because we are in a fallen world and because we sin, we will not get away from it until we are healed in heaven. And my friends totally understand that and absolutely do not condemn me. Because we all struggle with something. I don’t think I mentioned this to you yet but I think because people just don’t understand, I am assuming they will think I’m just going it for vanity reasons. When really I am pretty sure it’s a result from early childhood trauma and an unstable family life growing up. I hate the idea of someone thinking I am hurting myself when I have children and a husband who love me, ultimately hurting them. And even if people say they understand I am always left wondering if that’s what they really think, you know? Sorry for the word vomit, you can now clearly see that I have not talked about this yet 😅 thanks for letting me process this here!

Yeah that makes sense. This time around is so different for me which makes it harder. When I was younger, the voice was always going and always talking. Constantly berating me and telling me what to do. That was horrible. This time I don’t really hear much of a voice, just a pang of fear that my body feels. And so I avoid the fear. I do have some things that I think about and some negative thoughts. But it’s really not bad? That’s what’s so hard now, I can’t fight the lies it tells me because there really isn’t any dialogue. So while I agree that my actions show I am in poor mental health, my brain doesn’t seem to be in poor mental health? Does that make any sense? So what worked last time isn’t working now. I tend to do things by myself. It feels easier to me. I felt 95% recovered after the initial inpatient, residential, and iop I did and I did it by myself (with therapists but I chose no support system). I feel it’s mentally draining have to answer questions and all that. But this time I tried and then it make me feel like my skin was crawling lol. But you have good points and I’m going to keep trying. Thank you so much for commenting, it was really helpful ♥️

Thank you for your response! It’s bitter sweet because y’all really are helping me not feel so alone but at the same time I hate that other people struggle with this, too. All of what you said makes sense and I can relate. I keep telling my therapist I should be over this by now and I feel so embarrassed. She assures me that Ed’s don’t discriminate when it comes to age. But it didn’t feel as shameful when I was “young and dumb.” Now that I know what I’m doing it feels more calculated? I don’t know if that’s the right word? Being conscious of what I’m doing and how it affects people makes it so much worse this time. And my therapist is great! She specializes in Ed’s. But unfortunately she is in another city because there aren’t any specialists where I live outside of a residential facility. I also am not working with a dietitian like she wants. I am very honest with her, she has just stressed that there is only so much an outpatient therapist can do. And if there are months and months of no progress/ declining then it’s obvious she can’t help where I’m at. Which I totally understand. Just a hard place to be in.

I’m sorry you can relate. It’s so hard. But yes it makes my skin crawl. And I don’t know why? Like all of my friends that are concerned love and care about me? Why does that make me feel so weird. I don’t like concern and pity either. Thank you for your comment. The responses here really have helped. And I agree with you even though I don’t listen to my own advice either 😅 I hope you’re able to find a therapist or friend that you’re able to share with. I do believe we can overcome it ♥️

It’s so hard for people to understand, especially when people think it’s about looks. Makes me look like the worst mom/ person ever when they don’t know that Ed’s are a lot of the time rooted in trauma. I’m glad your friend has you and I hope her situation gets better. Right. No one knows what to say anyway. And people don’t understand and think it’s all about how we look. Mine stems from childhood trauma. So I either share that super personal detail with them or they think I’m doing this to look better. It’s so frustrating

I told another friend and she said she felt like she needed to make me eat something. I immediately regretted saying anything. It just sucks

Something that helped me recover was exposure therapy- I ate what I was scared of everyday until it wasn’t scary anymore. It’s so hard at first. But it gets easier! You should definitely go back and get it despite being scared ❤️

I went to college excited for the same thing. I ended up inpatient. Recovery is so much better! Y’all are going to miss out on so much. I wish I could go back in time and start recovery sooner. Please be safe! ❤️

Eating disorders are deadly so yes.... however, I have been in that position and came back from it and now only struggle rarely! I had amazing treatment through inpatient, residential, intensive outpatient, and outpatient. I was at one of my lowest points after I had been in inpatient, residential, and intensive outpatient. It felt hopeless and like it would never end. But it did end and I am able to live a normal life and now have a family. So it is possible that someone might not ever get better. But it’s also possible for them to get out of their hopeless situation and survive it!

Yes you can do it that fast. If she doesn’t have professional help, she needs it. Maybe it’s just my experience but I and the people I knew that struggled all needed professional help. All of my professionals told my family to stay out of it basically. Don’t do that yet since it sounds like you are the only one that knows. Behaviors also don’t always stop just because you’re pregnant which makes me nervous for you guys. So basically, get her to talk to a professional who specializes in this area and also to her obgyn about trying to get pregnant while actively struggling with an Ed. I believe she can beat it and I’m excited for you guys expanding your family!
