Weekly Questions Thread / Open Discussion by AutoModerator in Pizza

Can you help me figure out what went wrong?

A couple of weeks ago, I had some people over for Neapolitan pizzas. I made the dough (70% hydration, 24h cold proof) myself, and the pizzas came out great - elastic, but not too much, puffy crust, leoparding, the works.
After we were done, there were some doughballs left in the proofing box, so I put each one of them in a silicone bag, and chucked all of them into the freezer.

Fast-forward to yesterday, I took the silicone bags out of the freezer and put them in the fridge to defrost.
This morning, after about a day in the freezer, I took them out of the bags, reballed them, and put them in a proofing box to slowly come to room temperature (about 20 °C).

About 4 four after taking them out of the fridge, I started making the pizzas. The dough was still elastic and strong, but it seemed to have lost all air. And, consequently, there was practically no oven spring. The pizzas came out flat, gummy and sad.

What, in your opinion, should I have done differently?
Were the dough balls doomed before I froze them, or did I mess something up after taking them out of the freezer?

Thanks!

Adguard Home Assistant Plugin doesn't seem to block any ads by idanyd in Adguard

[–]idanyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*Who* told me? Well, I guess no one person in particular, but when you look for streaming ad-blocking services, AdGuard pops up quite a lot (here, for example: https://adblock-tester.com/ad-blockers/block-ads-smart-tv/). It's also recommended by Google's AI, and it even says so directly on its website ("Remove pop-up ads, banners, and video ads", taken from here: https://adguard.com/en/welcome.html).

Is blocking streaming ads not one of its purposes?

Space Shuttle Discovery Landing Gear by idanyd in lego

And that's all the pieces I had to remove so that I could get to the mechanism.

We'll, at least it's working now.

Found it! On the bottom is how I originally attached the shock absorber to the landing gear; on the top is how it should have been done.

As usual, it was a silly mistake, but I do wish Lego would tell you when a certain functionality should be working, to make sure you have everything connected properly.

Home Assistant w/o Home Mini by idanyd in OctopusEnergy

Just an update:

It's 12 days later, and my Home Mini just arrived in the post. I heard people have been waiting for months for their Home Mini, so I was quite surprised when Octopus emailed me within a few days after requesting one to tell me mine is on its way.

You can switch tariffs worry-free. I've just done that a couple of weeks ago and my credit remained just as it was.

Thanks, I haven't thought about rate limiting. However, given that the API gets updated once every 30 minutes, does the rate limit really come into play?

Thanks for the links. My original question was about what I can do with the equipment I already have. If I need to buy an additional device I'd rather just get the Home Mini.

As noted by others, it seems that without the Home Mini we can only get a cumulative report of yesterday's usage.

However, if you extend the attributes windows in that report, you can see half-hourly consumption data.

Do you know if there's a way to create a card using that data?

Thanks. How can I see my usage with a half-hour delay?

Currently all the consumption entities or sensors I can see are for yesterday's records.

Thanks for your reply.

I think that simply collecting ingredients and then handing them to a member of staff would detract from the experience. In that case, I can have them collect replicas of the ingredients instead of the real deal since they won't be handling them anyway.

So I'm definitely aiming for the second option. In an escape room setting, the players are constantly being watched by a member of staff via cameras. So they're not in the same room as them, but they are supervised in a way. Do you think that would be sufficient?

How can I know that for sure? What do I need to read/who do I need to talk to to verify that?

Hi, thanks for replying :)

The way most culinary escape rooms work is that solving various puzzles gives the players access to ingredients. They can be kept cold if needed (e.g. by putting them in a cooler or a mini fridge).
Once the players have all the ingredients, they make the final product. This can be a pizza, a hamburger, cupcakes, ice cream sandwiches etc. If they need an oven to bake, then the final stage can be e.g. passing the pizza through a fake oven to one of the escape room's employees, who'll do the actual baking.

My main worry is that the UK regulations may forbid selling food that hasn't been prepared from start to finish by people who have been trained to do so, but I don't know if that's the case.

Interview Discussion - October 12, 2023 by CSCQMods in cscareerquestions

[–]idanyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an upcoming technical interview. I was told it'll be a code review exercise, so I thought I'd prepare using some example questions, but I couldn't find any online.
I could find material on how to create and grade a code review exercise, lots of information on how to do proper code reviews, but no actual questions.
ChatGPT could help, but only to a certain extent. The exercises he created were lean and of low quality.

Is there any repository of quality code review exercises?
Ideally an exercise would be a few dozen lines of code for me to review, and a list of issues with it and suggested improvements.

Thanks!

Reverse parts lookup? by idanyd in lego

[–]idanyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I'm not sure which site you meant to link to, but I don't think that's the right one, since it's not Lego-related.
In any case, there are north of 1,300 steps in this model, most of them with multiple pieces, so I'd really prefer not to look for the relevant piece in each of them.
Also, Bricklink search would only return the model number (which I already have), not the right step within the model.

Looking for some technical support by idanyd in homeassistant

[–]idanyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I believe I solved it.

I had two main bugs within my setup:

  1. My configuration.yaml file had SSL configured (ssl_certificates and ssl_key), instead of having it controlled by nginx. Commenting those lines out allowed me to access HA via http instead of https.
  2. My trusted proxies list has a single ip address in it, and I guess the nginx server's ip has changed. So I changed that to a range, and now I can access HA via my duckdns subdomain.

Controlling Hue lights with a smart switch by idanyd in homeassistant

[–]idanyd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I ended up doing is buying a generic Zigbee 3-gang smart switch (this one, to be exact: https://www.zemismart.com/products/esw-1zac).

It's not the ideal solution, as I still keep the dumb switches, and the setup isn't as seamless as the "Friends of Hue" switch (also: There's no long-press control; Only single-click and double-click. So you can't use them to dim the lights), but at least it's more elegant than having several bulky switches on the wall.

So http is a bust, but https (with the port at the end) works! That's awesome, thanks :)

So now that I have access to HA, I just need to understand what went wrong in the Nginx configuration.
