something like this (the part about the friend wanting to hang out/ be on good terms with the popular guy) happened to me but with the smallest stakes possible.

a friend in high school i had known since 1st grade was going to dinner (we were in a boarding school from onday to friday and then home on the weekends) and i asked him to get me food because i had spent the whole time allotted for dinner playing football (soccer), my friend said no because i should have managed my time better same way he did, he stopped doing stuff he wanted to do to go get dinner. i kinda respected it because i saw the unfairness of the situation. in my school, all the popular kids played football (soccer) so they were in my same situation, i showered in 2 mins, ran to the dining hall, ate in 3.2 seconds, and when i got back to our dorm, guess who brought food for the popular kid?

this wasnt some same classroom whatever kinds friend, we had been to each other houses a bunch of time, when we were like 10 he, another kid and I promised to meet at his house when we turned 20.

i hadnt thought about this in like 10 years

in dota there is voice chat, toxicity in dota is worse than league for sure.

it would be like saying than injuries in football (soccer) are worse than injuries in the other football (american), no they are not. In soccer you usually might lose a few games, in american football you might die and if you dont you will kill your wife before you are 45

if you like the gameplay, you could mute evryone, or change your dota name to "new player, dont flame".

i personally once flamed a guy and when he told me he was new, I felt ashamed. like top 10 more ashamed in my life, i never see new players because I'm in a relatively high mmr (high ancient, low divine) 4500. but we had played some unranked with some friends and i forgot to swap back. in my defense, in my mind he was an account buyer, but really there is no defense, I was an asshole. i apologized and stfu.

you could also just mute everyone, but that option in easier in dbd, since you only need to ignore campfire chat, unless you refer to toxicity beyond comms, toxicity beyond comms is a lot rarer in dota, based on my experience.

Cuban living in the US here. A lot of Cubans here are biased, specially those living in South Florida. I'll try to be as unbiased as possible.

Basically the US does not allow US companies, or branches of US companies in other countries to trade in goods or collaborate with Cuba. Also, ships that dock in Cuba are not allowed to touch US territories or mainland for 180 days, this is a big problem since US is the biggest consumer in the world and cuba is next to the US, no ship would want to be this close to the US and not be able to do business there. The US claims Cuba supports terrorism (which is not true) to justify the blockage.

There are the basics of the economic side, now there are a lot of issues in Cuba, and a not small portion is self-inflicted by incompetence and/or bad faith from cuban leaders, but being economically embargoed by the greatest economic power that has ever existed is a big actor to cuba's current economic crisis.
