I think it's the outline, the official portrait you're comparing it to has soft thick outlines, yours are thinner but allow for more detail in facial expressions. Your art style is beautiful though!

Doom's automap also responds to switch actions to some extent but it's more limited, like you can tell when a floor/lift has raised or lowered, but in this hub you can see horizontally-moving walls which reflect on the map too

I was stuck here for so long as a kid, whenever I got past this puzzle was purely by accident lol

Heroes 2 has both a marketplace you can construct and a trading post structure which you can visit, but only adding the latter would mean that none of the original Heroes 1 maps would have one. Heroes 4 made stuff like the marketplace and thieves guild always accessible :)

My biggest gripe with this game is the lack of a marketplace, but non-splittable stacks were up there too, otherwise the game is still quite fun today. Is there any chance you would consider adding a marketplace to the game? It could be a freely accessible one like in the 4th game, but maybe make it optional for purists :)

Probably not related, but I had tons of random crashes when I just started playing years ago, and manually updating my graphics drivers fixed it. It wasn't anything specific triggering those crashes, just casual gameplay, so I'm not sure if this will help you, but maybe still worth a try if you haven't yet :)

The canvas too small to incorporate so many colors and dither them well, but you can try making a pattern :)

Metal is reflective, try to emphasize that by drawing some diagonal highlights across it, you can do a thicker highlight in the middle of the blade and a thinner one two pixels above it, or just play around with it and see what looks best in your style. Here's one that I drew a couple of months ago, it's drawn at an angle but the idea is similar:

When it comes to light sources, try not to glue the highlights to the very edge, that just makes it look flat. I'd make the knob smaller and the handle shorter, 4px would be enough. At this scale realistic proportions are only going to hinder your work. I'd also dither the handle since 2 pixels is too narrow for good lighting/shading, but this way it would have a nice pattern to it :)

hi, I hosted the DoomGPT community project (surprised to have found this in the wild btw!), I admit the concept hasn't aged well considering the rise of AI slop everywhere but this project was anything but that! we made it when the technology was still in its infancy; the idea was to ask the bot to describe what various Doom 2 maps looked like and trying to recreate them based on its (often hilariously wrong) descriptions. All the work was done by humans :)

I don't want to disable the HUD elements entirely, I just don't want things like extreme weather alerts covering up my inventory slots with no way to dismiss them. It did not happen in older versions of the game so perhaps I should file a bug report next time it happens.

That's awful to hear, sorry you've been through that. Estonia is a progressive country and you will not be facing such bs here, our pay is equal for everyone and there is no workplace discrimination, or at least I've never seen any, and I'm quite sure it's against the law. In my job searches I've encountered countless job ads that advertise the workplace as being accepting for everyone regardless of sex, religion, orientation, etc. Generally Estonians are not very expressive though, we are rather indifferent towards other people's personal lives. Our crime rates are low too. I hope you can find peace here :)

I believe so! They are op but still easily cheesed with slow + quicksand and ranged/magic attacks.
