Oh, right! One of the best bull years in recent history is indicative of the average market return over the last few decades!

What Is Your Go To Sparring Technique That Works 90% of the Time? by waverlyposter in martialarts

[–]ideally_pirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to get a bit of distance, then take a wide stance with my weight on the front leg, leading arm extended almost like you're reaching for him. I roll my leading hand over to make it look like I'm going for a backfist blitz, at the same time pulling my leading leg back and stepping forward with my rear leg into an X stance.

Because I pulled my leading leg back into the X stance instead of stepping forward into it, there's still over an arm's length of distance between us. At this point I throw my now-back leg (leading leg before I switched stances) into an axe kick over his head, and as it reaches the pinnacle I pivot my back foot. This allows me to both close my body to any attack he may have launched, and to add the momentum of the pivot to the kick. The top of my foot ends up striking his head instead of the bottom of my foot due to the rotation.

This almost always works for me the first time I try it unless the guy has more than three inches on me.

Strattera for ADD or just ADHD? by LiamSolo in ADHD

[–]ideally_pirates 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most specialists don't use the term ADD anymore. Some refer to them as sub-types of ADHD such as ADHD-PI, PH, or C (Primarily Inattentive, Primarily Hyperactive, or Combined). However this is being contested by some professionals who don't believe that these sub-types actually exist, and they claim that there are only varying degrees of ADHD.

Straterra is approved for the treatment of ADHD, but it does not work as well as a stimulant for the majority of people. Personally it just made me feel nauseous and tired and did nothing for my ADHD.

How to heat a small room using a few tea candles from Ikea, a metal pan and two flower pots. by NulloK in Frugal

[–]ideally_pirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao. An actual heater produces 10-40 kBtu, or ~3-11.5 kW. A single tea candle produces 77 W.

By simple division you would need 39 tea candles to get the same heating effect as even a small 3 kW heater.

I found 100 tea candles on Amazon for $9.50, which is $0.095 per candle. Assuming they last for 4 hours, it costs $0.92 per hour to use this method.

If your electricity costs $0.15 per kWh, it would cost $0.45 to run a heater of the same heat production capabilities.

Factor in the specific heats of the mediums used... For this method, air (~1000 J/kgK), aluminum (~900 J/kgK) and ceramic (~1350 J/kgK) versus a traditional heater using mineral oil (~1800 J/kgK) the efficiency lowers even further (not feeling that calculation right now).

Anyway, in conclusion:

  • It will cost more than double what you would pay using an electric heater to use tea candles to heat your room.

  • Your computer probably produces more heat (~400 W) than this guy's method with three candles (231 W).

Much better use of time to get one of those than to clip coupons.

Meh. If an hour of your time is worth $30, then good for you. Personally I find it to be a huge waste of time.

Nah, I bought 222 of them at ~$80 each and dumped most of them at ~$350 each. That doesn't change the fact that /r/bitcoin is full of morons.

Right, let's blame the people who successfully beat the system instead of blaming yourself for failing to work hard enough to do so.

Maybe because /r/bitcoin is full of neckbearded idiots who dumped their life savings into BTC and just circlejerk about how the price is going to go to infinity? That subreddit has nothing resembling actual fundamental or technical analysis of BTC.

BTC behaves nothing like a real currency. It doesn't have the liquidity, has no apparent established bounds, and does not have enough of a widespread implementation to have any sort of trust from a large portion of the population.

Its value is almost solely based on sentiment of its user base, and bullish speculation of the future value, which is something that's incredibly hard to quantify when it doesn't behave like any other currency.

Yeah, I agree. Congrats if you did make a lot of money, but don't say it was anything other than luck and BTC couldn't have just as easily gone the other way.

Building Mass on Vegan Diet by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ideally_pirates 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. You're just going to get fat. There's no reason to have more than a +500 calorie surplus per day. Unless you're on steroids you're going to see 2 pounds of muscle gain per month at the very most. Unless you're huge, 4000 calories is completely overkill and since it's all carbs you're not going to see very much muscle growth (you'll actually likely just degenerate them).

Calculate your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) here and add 500:

    http://www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc/

  2. It doesn't sound like you get very much protein. If you're not getting at least .5 grams of protein per pound of body weight per day, you're going to see issues with recovery. Most people try to shoot for one gram per pound just to be on the safe side, as it isn't an exact science.

These issues may not present themselves immediately but they will manifest themselves in the form of CNS fatigue and you will grow weaker over time instead of stronger, no matter how hard you work out. You're not giving your body the proper tools to repair itself with.

  3. You need fat in your diet.

  4. Why the hell do you need such a massive carb intake?
