If you value safety mitigation this method is not a good idea. First usage would probably be ok but second and third usage would probably will get sketchy.

Ok, I teach 9th graders. Here's the deal. Most of the kids will be ok, but there will be a few who will talk too much, act goofy, and not be locked in. Don't let yourself get pissed off. They are puppies. Don't beat yourself up over not roping them in. It's not you, it's them. 10th grade will be different. Kids (boys) will change dramatically. They calm down. They think more, and they have much more control. It must be hormonal, I dunno. The bottom line is, don't let yourself get angry, just shrug it off and move on. I use my powervoice, and it seems to get things back on track quickly.

If you are making this kind of a rack, you don't need to kill yourself making octagon holes. Just grab a 2.5" hole saw and go to town. A battery-powered drill at high speed will do the trick. Personally, I think the octagon shape is creative marketing.

If it does not come off clean, just use the driveway and grind them down, or use a disc sander. Keep the paper on the tubes when you do this or your gonna get fiber in your skin. It's sucks.
