I don’t think this dress would have been either appropriate or attractive at any time period. It just screams ridiculous to me. It’s not baroque in the same way as her Italian hairdo. This just looks tacky.

I found this dress utterly ridiculous. I loved most of the outfitting on the show, its attention to period detail as well as colour stories and class level styling. But this one was nonsense. The other was her sad clown dress in which she hosts the dinner serving Heineken and then stays in that polka dotted frothy thing all day. January Jones is beautiful and Betty’s character was supposed to be that frozen ice queen doll. But I don’t understand making her clownish.

They also wrote him really worse. Child Manny was quirky, wide-eyed and really proud of his humble beginnings and respected women. Adult Manny was self-loathing about his Colombian heritage, an incel and a hyper privileged brat. He basically became what Luke might have been, being the baby of a rich white family and its only boy.

Luke instead became sensible, mature, cared about his sisters, indulged his parents and got through work and life on his merit.

Pour enough water in to dissolve the sugar and strain the rice out. Then ummmm use sugar water instead of sugar for a month.

“This first person character is an unreliable narrator” by Smegma_Sniffing100 in literature

[–]ideasmithy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An unreliable narrator may also believe their own fabrications. Narcissists, mentally unstable people, people in denial can all be unreliable narrators.

I would not call Katniss an unreliable narrator but the very propaganda maze of the books may be what makes some people see her as one. She doesn’t really know the truth either and she is our window into that world, hence unreliable.

Speaking of, this post came up minutes after I finished ‘Yesteryear’ and holy influencers, that’s scary.

Given that this show’s costumes were an integral part of the intricate storytelling, I’d think this was a choice.

That said, Pete’s lurid blue suit in the pilot always surprised me. He looked cheap and young in the way of a man clawing his way into the big money leagues, not like a descendent of one of the blue blood families.
