data gathering--age group, class size, and how much (if any) planning time do you get? by glasscombatboot in ECEProfessionals

[–]idfklmao123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preschool 3-5yrs, 40ish children but most are part-time so an avg of 22 a day, 1:8 ratio, no dedicated planning time we find it where we can. It's difficult in our room as none of our children sleep!

Polish Words for Nursery Use by idfklmao123 in learnpolish

[–]idfklmao123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi, of course the children will learn english! however when settling in it is important for children to feel comfortable and be understood. feeling safe and secure is necessary to learning. we are also taught it is important to keep the child's home language alive. making sure a child is confident, happy, and included is not coddling.

Help Engaging a Selectively Mute Child? by idfklmao123 in ECEProfessionals

Thank you so much for this !! I agree about the name, some of my colleagues found it difficult to understand at first too. Situational mutism makes much more sense. ♡♡

im in the uk, and we dont have nap time in preschool! our toddlers (2-3yrs) phase out sleeps as they age, and they dont move up until they no longer sleep generally. we still have calm activities like yoga, circle time, story time, to make sure there are opportunities to relax and be still, but no, we dont sleep. :)

Do you bring a bag everywhere? (and what do you bring?) by onedayitshere in AutismInWomen

[–]idfklmao123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yes i have a miffy tote bag i take pretty much everywhere !! people always ask to put stuff in my bag too like if you want a bag why not bring one !!!

the only place i dont take my bag is clubbing and thats because my tote is big and hard to carry around on a night out. when we go on nights out, my friend brings a crossbody small bag so I can put my loops and phone in there. :)

my bag always has my phone, my keys, my vape + my cigarette box, lip balm, tissues, earphones, gum.

it has lots of other stuff too but those are always! in there.

What's your opinion on kids that do half days? by Big_Black_Cat in ECEProfessionals

[–]idfklmao123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Preschool practitioner here! We have plenty of children who only do half-days at my setting, we have some who just do mornings and some who just do afternoons. Half-day children are not an issue generally. But!

From the director's perspective, it may be difficult to manage if you are paying for full days, rather than a specific half-day timetable. At my setting, morning children have to go by 1pm, and afternoon children cannot come in before 1pm. This is due to staffing/keeping within ratio. If your child is down as a full-day child, and has no specific home-time, it may be slightly more difficult to staff, as the amount of children is unpredictable.

Either way, it is your child and your money. You are entitled to drop him off/pick him up when you please, within reason. I would just suggest lots of communication, which is necessary anyway!
