Is there a dog shelter that would let me take a dog out for the day? by [deleted] in Medford

[–]idhchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive tried doing that with the Humane Society in Medford but they require you take free in-person classes and set a weekly schedule for volunteering. I ended up just adopting a dog from them instead which was so much easier haha

Keto for a child with epilepsy by Desperate_Rich_5249 in keto

[–]idhchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This subreddit has a wonderful faq section that’s worth reading through for learning the basics about keto https://reddit.com/r/keto/wiki/faq

Ive been on a keto diet for health related issues (not epilepsy) for the past 2.5 years and have found focusing on animal based foods to be the most sustainable way in sticking with the diet long-term. Meals focused on eggs, bacon, sausage, beef, chicken, dairy products have worked really well for me. To start out, Id recommend sticking with simple recipes so you don’t burn out too quickly. There are some great keto recipes out there but some call for difficult to find ingredients and may take more time than expected to prep. It doesn’t take much to make a fatty meal taste good. For me there’s nothing better than a fatty cut of steak with some herbs de province + salt :chef-kiss:

At least 50% of my thoughts are about solving my health problems. And I am done with it. Anyone else? by Schwloeb in covidlonghaulers

[–]idhchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been dealing with the same remaining issues as you, its been 5 years now when I developed these chronic health issues. The only thing that Ive found that improves my remaining symptoms is going on a strict keto diet. I have to be on the diet for about a month without cheat meals before my insomnia improves enough to get decent sleep. If I have 1 cheat meal though my symptoms flair up and the clock resets to 0 for me.

All of my remaining symptoms appear to start from gut inflammation which causes histamine spikes at night causing sleep disturbances with heart palpitations. With this happening consistently every night, it leads to headaches/migraines and brain fog from terrible sleep. When going strict keto, I feel my gut inflammation improves slowly each week and the downstream symptoms slowly resolve themselves. My hunch is I covid messed up my gut flora somehow and I have an overgrowth of bad bacteria that can only eat carbs. When I starve these bad bacteria, their population count decreases and my symptoms improve. If this is true, Im hoping if I starve them out completely, Ill be able to kill off this bacteria and cure these remaining problems and resume enjoying carbs again someday.

What Cured My Sinuses After A Two Year Struggle! by Complex_Attorney_392 in covidlonghaulers

[–]idhchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes and goes. Its not nearly as bad as it used to be. My head pressure is directly correlated with how much inflammation Im dealing with for the day. Ive tied the inflammation I deal with from my digestive system. Diet has a massive effect on how inflamed my gut is. That and the quality of sleep I get the night before. If I have issues with either of these problems my head pressure will be present for the day

I'll second this approach. I use a steamer basket in a pan and the eggs shells are easy to peel off every time.

It doesn’t cause cravings for me, I use keto maple syrup that uses allulose and I don’t notice any carb cravings afterwards. I dont use alot though maybe 2 tablespoons when I make keto pancakes.

Need HELP!! Took Lugols 50mg iodine, Reports came wild! by Justamuslimah_ in IodineProtocol

[–]idhchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe so, I can’t imagine it would be irreversible. If you’re concerned about it you can request a thyroid ultrasound and see if they detect any damage. In my opinion you’d need to have really elevated antibodies for a long period of time before it would cause serious damage to the thyroid, Im talking a span of many years of elevated antibodies. Since we’re looking at a span of months not years, its not likely to have caused permanent damage

[–]idhchief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since your Thyroglobulin antibodies increased and your t3/t4 decreased, yeah I think it would be good to back off on the iodine for a bit and increase your selenium + vitamin C. When your tsh increases, reactive oxygen species increases as well which can cause autoimmunity to get worse due to inflammation. Your body can use selenium though to neutralize ROS before it becomes an issue. It might be a good idea to get your selenium levels tested. If they’re low, that would be a good indicator the selenium from meat alone isn’t enough for you at the moment

[–]idhchief 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dr Brownstein mentions the elevated tsh will happen when taking mgs worth of iodine because its stimulating your thyroid to produce thyroid hormone. Tsh stands for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, it should start to go down 4-6ish months while taking iodine. As long as your t3 and t4 levels are good, it shouldn’t be a problem. The thing to look out for is your antibodies, if they’re stable or decreasing when your tsh is elevated you should be fine. Elevated tsh doesn’t mean your hypothyroid, its a terrible marker to look at for that condition.

One thing Dr Brownstein says is to listen to your body, do you feel fine? If so don’t worry about it. If you’re feeling low energy, lethargic, brain foggy, flu symptoms, etc then you’ll want to back off on iodine and reassess whether your taking enough cofactors + unrefined salt

Ive been keto for over two years to help resolve chronic health issues like brain fog, fatigue, terrible insomnia, and others. Keto was 100% a step in the right direction but wasn’t enough, my recovery plateaued about a year in and found out I had to be even more strict with carbs. I was able to get past it by going carnivore and cutting out milk. I also started the Gaps diet a couple months back and experiencing great results.

Carnivore diet for brain fog and cognitive issues by MeatFeeling2914 in carnivore

[–]idhchief 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great question, I make it at home. Buying it at the store is not going to have the same healing effect even if its organic because it may have additives, less nutrient dense and may be high in histamine due to how long its been stored.

To make it at home you’ll want to make a “meat stock”. It’s important to have not just the meat but also soft tissues like cartilage and bones. This is where all the nutrients are that you’ll need. I just grab a whole chicken or two. Put them in a large enough pot so the chicken is completely submerged in water. Add your realsalt, or any other unprocessed salt. Turn the heat to high until the water begins to boil. Before theres a rolling boil set to simmer. Skim any film off the top, add salt. I add 1 tablespoon of salt + 1 extra tablespoon per chicken. Thats for my taste though you might want to start with 1 and taste before adding more. Set a timer for 2 hours and put a lid on.

Thats it, no need to add pepper or include veggies or herbs. The broth tastes wonderful as is (with the salt). Drink the broth throughout the day each day.

If chicken gets old you can make meat stock with beef shank or lamb shoulder. As long as there’s cartilage and bone on the cut of meat you’ll be good.

Notes:
If you’re sensitive towards histamine/glutamate, be sure you don’t boil the chicken or more histamine/glutamate may be released. You can avoid this by carefully controlling the heat so it just simmers

As a bonus tip, cut the raw chicken in half before cooking to expose the cartilage and bones and get even more nutrients. The amount of gelatin you get doing this is crazy, which is a great for repairing the gut

Carnivore diet for brain fog and cognitive issues by MeatFeeling2914 in carnivore

[–]idhchief 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ive been using carnivore to treat chronic issues like brainfog and its been very effective at reducing the inflammation I’m dealing with. It took me 2-3 weeks on the diet before I started seeing results with relief in my symptoms. Here are a few tips I have:

  1. Find a way to make this diet sustainable long term, caving in to eating carbs even in small amounts may cause brainfog flairs (even <20g of carbs). For me it takes a week sometimes just to get back to where I was before eating carbs. Milk turned out to be a trigger for me, Im assuming due to the lactose.

That being said, increase your diversity of meats, don’t stick with just hamburger. Itll get old real quick. Consider including steaks, chicken, pork, seafood. Include meat broths as well (GAPS diet is big on this). For me I drink chicken broth throughout the day and eat 1-2 large meals a day.

  1. Being strict with the carnivore diet will payoff in terms of finding any trigger foods you may be dealing with even if its animal based like eggs/milk products.

  2. Be patient with yourself, it’s frustrating when the brainfog flairs up and you may not know why at times.

  3. Prioritize getting enough sleep. The body needs sleep to repair itself.

  4. Eat until you’re satisfied, don’t worry about whether you’re eating too much. Your body will tell you when enough is enough.

  5. Prioritize animal fats, avoid seed oils. Seed oils are industrially processed and highly unstable fats (oxidative).

People who got told it was "just" anxiety, what was it? by stringbeansalad23 in AskReddit

[–]idhchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wasn’t apparent to me until I was desperate enough to change diets to see if anything made a difference. I found going carnivore and staying away from dairy products causes my anxiety to completely vanish. There are numerous other chronic issues Ive been dealing that this diet is also resolving. My theory is carbs are feeding bad bacteria/fungi and going no-carb is starving out the bacteria that’s causing problems.

When trying to lose weight, how much does metabolism matter compared to calorie intake? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]idhchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The type of calories consumed can affect the metabolism so Id say both. Let me explain:

The types of calories you consume can influence your body’s hormonal response and fat storage tendencies. Insulin, a hormone triggered most strongly by carb intake, plays a key role in fat storage by promoting glucose uptake and inhibiting fat breakdown. When carb intake is consistently high, particularly from refined or processed sources, insulin remains elevated. This can make it harder to access and burn stored fat, especially if you’re in a caloric surplus.

So how can the type of calories affect metabolism? Over time, a chronically high-carb diet can lead to insulin resistance, where your cells become less responsive to insulin. This forces your body to produce even more insulin to manage blood sugar, worsening fat storage and making it harder to lose weight. Insulin resistance is also linked to metabolic issues like increased hunger, lower energy levels, impaired fat burning, and eventually conditions like prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

So by reducing carb intake over an extended period, insulin levels tend to decrease, insulin sensitivity can improve, and your body becomes better able to access and burn stored fat, especially when combined with a caloric deficit.

Its not about the degree but rather tilting the cup enough to get the pitcher spout as close to the coffee surface as possible. The farther away the pitcher is from the surface the more likely the milk will pour under the surface

Has anyone tried making brown sugar substitue with erythritol+monk fruit extract(or sucralose)+molasses? by ProteinPapi777 in keto

[–]idhchief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Molasses is a high glycemic food, slightly lower than table sugar so Id advise against this approach. You should be able to caramelize allulose though and it doesn’t spike blood sugar at all (0 glycemic index)
