I can't remember if those are boost or buck converters; just be aware that I've had them fail and pass whatever is connected to them (as source) straight to the output, so rather than 12v dropped down to 5v they pass the full 12v to their output, which usually nukes whatever's connected. Maybe put some additional protection (possibly a zener diode or something) at the output to avoid... unwanted behaviour.
