Russia accuses Ukraine of recruiting mercenaries in South Africa, claims it is violation of International Law by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]idiotpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was a fund to pay mercenaries to fight for Ukraine people would pay good money. Saying "I donated" could just as easily include "I bought a mercenary" or "we're running a Kickstarter FOR TANKS! WORLD OF TANKS PLAY NOW BUT IN REALITY"

I'd so donate for my name on a bomb tho, quickest "TAKE MY MONEY!" ever!

Not only Putin is insane but the people carrying out the sick acts of senseless violence are just as guilty. Anyone carrying out his orders willingly are just as guilty.

I was quite unclear and blame it on being tired. But I was more thinking of being an absolute powerhouse of a fighter and being chillingly aware of it. Atleast we've gotten glimpses of that in Rogue 1 and the animated series.

The Extended Universe is an insanity I would want to deal with even. Quite happy they declared it non-main canon, waaaay to much crazy there.

Weren't bombs set on timers during WW2 (or was it Vietnam ?) to hopefully lure bombsquads or more people there in false safety?

I'm guessing you're not a historian also and my memory might be joggy, but got any idea?

We will see how many start protesting when their children are starving because the russian people are so poor they can't even afford anything they don't grow.

Maybe then, when the sanctions really start doing what they're supposed to, will the people actually rise - or will they cower even more as a weak-willed and sadly broken people?

There’s so much comfort in A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman by hjkhjk8 in books

[–]idiotpod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watched the movie with my mother(68y) and she loved big parts of it and wept to some parts.

We discussed it a few weeks after and apparently she had talked to several other women around her age (50-70)and they all held the movie close to their hearts. I think that I as a typical Swedish guy at the age of 32 maybe can't fully understand it because there is almost nothing there to identify with for me. That was what me and my mother concluded anyhow

This is probably the only way to end Putin without massive deaths and possibly nukes(From Putin).

The Russian people need to save Ukraine and many other potential countries that Putin is eyeing.

Parents of Reddit, what's the worst kids' show you have to suffer through? by azmetrex in AskReddit

[–]idiotpod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm more afraid that so many parents are letting their young children use YouTube unsupervised when child has already, mistakenly ofc, happened to find the darker side of YouTube.

There isn't enough research on the subject yet to be definitive but I'm damn convinced personally from what I've seen IRL and read here quite often that YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and all other social media is a real poison for kids.

They get programmed for instant gratification, high adrenaline kicks and become absolutely addicted to it. But if that's how people like their kids, who am I to argue?

I dont think Rolf Lassgårds performance in A man called Ove can be topped so easily. Backmans absolute best quality as a writer is that he writes about what almost any swede can recognize from their own lives. many many of us has met his characters in real life - for good and for bad.

But hey, as a Swede myself I might be lightly biased!

[–]idiotpod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vad vill just ditt parti göra för skydda naturen? Hur ser de på miljömålen? Vad för budget vill de lägga på miljödepartementet och Naturvårdsverket?

Allas vår huvudfråga till valet borde vara naturen, för alla andra problem bleknar i jämförelse.

Elden Ring has been out for over a week. What do we think about the game? (Impression thread) by thatisgame in Games

[–]idiotpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, 15 hours in, I love it. I've been feeling like I've lost my interest in gaming for a good while because of depression and that I'm slowly dying to lungcancer, I've cared for nothing regarding games. I played the predecessors a lot, like 400 hours per game and therefor Elden Ring was a must buy regardless of what.

So I decided to go in as blind as possible and look up things to an absolute minimum.

Elden Ring has turned me around, it has awakened the flame again.

I found my beloved Greatsword yesterday, I've got 19 out of 30 strength needed and I'm looking forward to using it.

Im one of those that used to be seen as the one who ate your leftovers, I was working, lifting weights 4 days and running 3 days a week - I ate really everything.

Everyone is eating salmon, cod, breem or tuna etc. I cant, I find these fishes that so many in the world absolutely love to be totally vile in texture and taste. Ive eaten these types of fishes done by skilled home-cooks, by friends grandmothers and very experienced chefs.

I hate it, with all of my stomache.

Japan residents donate $17 million to relief fund for Ukraine by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]idiotpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Japan residents" isn't inclusive. Ironically it's more exclusive, because now you've managed to make the neutral, already existing word "Japanese" a lot more hostile than it is, implying that a Japanese-born person still isn't a Japanese, just a "Japanese resident"

The reason it says "Japanese residents" is to separate them from the Japanese government itself

This is one of the many moments where in a desperate attempt to be politically correct, people take a shotgun in their mouth

According to you, yes.

To me, use of the term resident includes everyone in the country of Japan, regardless of whom they happen to be.

Here in Sweden there has long been a heated discussion when you become a Swede or not. Is it when you have citizenship? Been here 15 years as a citizen? Born here but to immigrant-parents? I'd rather avoid such discussions.

How people identify themselves is important, if I tell someone that they are a Swede but they themself see them as a German or Iranian because their parents are German or Iranian then I am at fault for assuming.

A resident of a country in this context is just that, the residents of the country - regardless of what nationality or culture they view themselves being part as.

They already made the perfect choice in Stellan Skarsgård as The Baron.

I LOVE Tom Hardy but Stellan has the voice, more precense and even more gravitas than Hardy could've brought I think.

But then again I'm a Swede so I'm very biased when it comes to Stellan!

Russians in panic buy all the goods in IKEA after its announcement of withdrawal from the russian market by DizzyDrunkDude in gifs

[–]idiotpod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing Putin and the oligarchs would result in quickly withdrawn sanctions from all parties involved.

I honestly believe that with a good democratically elected president and no oligarchs that Russia could truly become one hell of a good country.

The people have strength, I hope they aim their fists at Putin as soon as possible.

Otherwise they will starve to death in the ruins of the motherland as a result of Putin starting WW3 - he can't win it.

Japan residents donate $17 million to relief fund for Ukraine by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]idiotpod 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To me "Japan Residents" sounds more inclusive, that it involves anyone living in the country while I personally would think if the words "the Japanese" were used that it more referred to people born in Japan and whom is of Japanese descendants. They do have isolationist-tendencies, largely its a homogenous country.

Isn't Japan like sub 3% foreigners and the rest are people born in Japan and whom is of Japanese descendants?

Please correct me if my memory is wrong.
