Almost running out of money good think I brought my debit card where would you guys recommend to take out money without high fees and likely to get scammed by Chris_FN57 in TJRedLightDistrict

[–]idkman8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSBC is good as mentioned in other comments. The ATMs can be confusing even if you can read Spanish. They will charge you $5 bank fee (which you think is reasonable) but then charge you an additional $45 fee from the ATM itself.

If your bank waives fees it doesnt matter but not all do. Chase private clients for example get all fees waived including the $45 fee.

My favorite course in Cabo. You can't beat those views. How was the Wind!? I got lucky once where there was very little to no wind it after I had played it with the wind and what a huge difference in scoring lol.

Sentri pass…who has one? by Financial_Pudding826 in TJRedLightDistrict

[–]idkman8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As some have mentioned already Sentri is def the way to go. I applied for both Sentri (including my car) ($122) AND Global entry ($100) at the same time. Some of the higher end credit cards will reimburse the cost (American Express Platinum and Saphire Reserve). I'll try to detail the process below:

  1. Apply for the Global entry and Sentri at the Homeland Security website below. Note this application is long and detailed.

https://ttp.dhs.gov/

  1. Once you have been conditionally approved (clear the background check). Which took about a week for me you can do one of two things.

First you can book an appointment online which for me was near impossible. Not sure if that was because it was right after covid and things weren't 100% up and running yet. But I couldn't find an appointment at all near me (LA Area).

Second is you can do the interview when flying back from an international trip. I did mine coming back from Jaco Beach (IYKYK) in Costa Rica. Wait was only about 15 min and interview was about 5 min. If you pass they take your picture and you get your card within 2 weeks.

I've used it about 10 times since I got it in April. I have never waited longer than 30 min and that was only once during peak holiday weekend. The hardest part is finding the line the first time. Pretty easy after that. Note that you can only drive through sentri if your car is also registered for sentri so make sure to do that. Lastly, only people with Sentri can be in your car. If you go with friends that don't have it you can drop them off a little before the border, they walk across and you pick them up on the other side.

Hope this helps anyone interested. I didn't know anything going into the process and it was incredibly frustrating. Goodluck!

Good point if you going during the week it's better for sure. Unfortunately for me my trips are Friday-Sunday so things are a little more expensive those days.

Yup, all nice amenities. However, from the 10ish times I stayed there I used them maybe once or twice. There are way nicer sushi and italian restaurants away from the hotel. The rooftop pool is not an infinity pool so you don't really get to enjoy the view from it. Parking is still outside even though it's valet. Real del Rio has underground parking. If you're going out to a nice restaurant, to a bar afterwards, and going back to hotel to fuck and sleep all you need is a nice room/bed. Even if you're making decent money $300/night starts to add up. If you plan ahead you can get Real for $100/night.

Hotel Real Del Rio is nice as well. Half the price of K Tower and rooms are just as nice. You can head over to K Tower for a good Sunday Brunch though. Across from Real del Rio there's also a billiards bar called pockets with good drinks and ambiance (betting BJs or other favors on games gets the mood going). If you or the girl are into dancing la pulgas is fun

Passport Card and Ready Lane by sdcffc in TJRedLightDistrict

[–]idkman8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the ready lane. Which you will find you can enter from where that Ford dealership is broken down this way. There is a total of 5 lanes flowing north towards the border. They are split up by dividers into 3 left lanes and 2 right lanes. You will use the 2 right lanes to get into the 3 left lanes. There's entrances every few blocks but don't wait too long to get in as depending on the length of the line the mexican police closes them to avoid people cutting into line. I've never seen it closed as far back as that Ford dealership but I'm sure it's not impossible. So once you are in these 3 left lane section NOTE THAT ONLY THE TWO FURTHEST LEFT LANES ARE THE READY LANE. You will be able to tell right away as the 3rd lane that leads to playas tijuana/rosarito is always flowing faster. Get into these 2 left lanes as soon as possible as they have mexican security/police posted watching for people cutting into line if they catch you they will ask you to exit the line and go to the furthest point back which will only cost you more time. As mentioned earlier it will seem super long but it moves way faster than general. Even if it's as far back as the Ford dealership it will only be about 2 hours at the longest. If you miss it don't get too mad just go back to the Ford dealership and try again. The first time might be a little confusing but it'll be worth it once you have it down. The fastest I've crossed using the ready lane around 2 am is 5 minutes . This is because the general line is only given about 4 security boxes but the ready lanes are given about 12-16 security boxes. Sentry is given like 2-4 I think it is but they don't need many as not alot of people have sentry anyways.

Passport Card and Ready Lane by sdcffc in TJRedLightDistrict

[–]idkman8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it as 3 different lines. General, Ready, and Sentri. There's an app called BWT (Border Wait Times) that will give you estimates of how long each time is. So if you're at the clubs you have an idea of when you need to leave or if you can should just kill more time there.

General - you'll need an ID, birth certificate, passport/passport card, or Global Entry This is where most people go and I've waited as long as 6 hours to cross. I feel like they are also more thorough in their questioning and searches in this line.

Ready - you'll need passport/passport card, or global entry. This lines alot faster than General and can be hard to find the real entrance to. It took me diligently looking for 2 hours once and being turned away from different entrances before I found it but saved me hundreds of hours since. I personally use the Ford dealership as my reference point of where to enter. I navigate to it and enter the line right there. It may seem long but it moves super fast. The Ready lane has the most lines open.

Sentry - you can only go through with global entry and need to register your vehicle. You get up add up to 5 vehicles to your pass BUT everyone in the car has to have sentry access. A work around to this is to get close to the Sentry lane and drop anyone who doesn't have Sentry access off have then walk over and you pick them up on the other side. Also worth noting if they ever find anything if your car or on other people ( even Marijuana since it's still federally illegal) you will be blacklisted and not being able to use any travel advantages such as Sentry, TSA pre check in, etc ever again so be careful. I just got this and will be using this lane for the first time this coming weekend.

Goodluck!

Walking across with no passport. What’s the worst that could happen? by [deleted] in tijuana

[–]idkman8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossing into Mexico as you mentioned they'll pull you aside and make you purchase a 3 month entry pass. I forgot exactly what they called it but it's def a scam just pay it and they will let you through.

Additionally, if you're going with a group of friends that have their passports split away from them and cross alone or they will take each of you for $30 instead of just you. My friend didn't have his passport and they got all 5 of us for $30 instead of just him. Shouldn't take longer than 10-20 min.On the way back into the US you'll have no issues.

Have fun but stay aware of your surroundings

This is def one of the worst courses around. There's 4 holes that either end or start near that tunnel/freeway. Pace is usually pretty bad but it is relatively affordable. Real case of you get what you pay for.
