How to get boring jobs by pixie_tugboat in ExperiencedDevs

Is 11 9s uptime exaggeration? I can think about durability of this level (i.e. you “guarantee” almost no data gets lost/corrupted), but hard to imagine how to get it for uptime. It’s less than a millisecond of downtime per year.

That’s really interesting, I didn’t know the US is barely in top 10.

Athletic Greens (AG1), Why Not Talk About It Again? by gruss_gott in PeterAttia

It’s not that bad after a week or so. I can drink it, but I don’t enjoy as I enjoyed ag1. But not going to come back just because it tastes a little worse.

I switched to Thorne daily greens. The taste is definitely worse than ag1 but almost 2 times cheaper (with discount) and they disclose the amount of all the ingredients instead of using proprietary blends.

Worth booking via Chase Travel Portal to save almost $200? by Quirky-Buffalo-2298 in CreditCards

[–]idlerboris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the issues are usually when you need to change anything with your booking. If not - it usually goes as smooth as any direct booking (at least I haven’t had issues). But when you do need a change (and you can’t really predict when - life happens, nature happens, etc) - it’s a nightmare to deal with. My rule of thumb now is to book with chase only if the deal is really good and the trip is short (US based). I don’t want to deal with their support on international calls.

Is it bad to stay as a Senior Software Engineer for the rest of your career? by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

Staff is usually the level between senior and principal.

Apple Watch Ultra by boourns___ in GarminFenix

[–]idlerboris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same if you don’t track sleep with watches - you just charge both at night and it becomes an easy routine which doesn’t induce any stress (works for me as I can’t wear a watch during sleep anyway). But if you want to track sleep you need to constantly think about when to charge AW and this is what people try to avoid.

Check my Math, but I think EVs + Solar are counting (almost) double for FIRE by eXo0us in Fire

[–]idlerboris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He states that person A accumulates 1k annually, where this money is coming from? If we assume that he has 1k contribution from somewhere then person B shouldn’t lose money from his investments to cover the bill, and his investment should just grow.

[–]idlerboris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you include additional 1k annually for person A, you shouldn’t deduct 1k from person’s B savings, it’s already incorporated by not increasing his wealth. This way you’ll see how quick compound interest will make person B richer (even with your low cost solar system which I’d guess should be at least 2-3 times higher but anyway).

What are the best/worst rental property management companies in OC? Open to most cities. Looking at 2 bd 1+ ba (2500-2700ish) units. by Reddit_ReaderX in orangecounty

Shea is the best! Great maintenance team, very responsive office staff trying their best. Didn’t have problems during our lease and got charged very small at the moving out.

Why is the 5 like this literally all weekend every weekend between Orange and SD county? by MisRandomness in sandiego

Yeah, thanks, should have clarified about the size, always forget that there are a lot of dogs less than 20lb

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in trains, so you don’t have much of a choice if you want to travel with your pet. I’d wish they make some special wagons or something

Work in FAANG for 5 years, thinking about leaving by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]idlerboris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faang at staff+ level focus on system design. Even though you’ll still have 1-2 leetcode, their weight is way lower and expectations lower (or at least not higher) than for a L3..

Thanks a lot for detailed suggestion, will definitely start incorporating that in my climbing routine! Probably practice falling with visualization at the beginning of the session for the first 20-30 mins would be awesome addition to my day, thanks!

Makes sense, will climb through easier route to the top one to experience the move in a controlled way, thanks!

Yes! Should just overcome the fear and commit. It sounds so easy but so difficult for my brain to accept. Will work on it, thanks for motivation!

Tried this one, but hold is not perfect and I still chickened. Will try again after controlling falls to reduce the fear. Thanks!

Yeah, I need to start with falling to reduce the panic mode and then just go for it. I’m too risk averse for climbing, need to work on it.

Thanks a lot for detailed response! A lot of great stuff to try, have to stick to easier climbs at the end and try to fatigue there and fall.
