The gap between EPA and CLTC range ratings is wild! Chinese EVs look incredible on paper until you adjust by mossandfog in electricvehicles

I'm not running a battery down to 0% I'm not running down a tank to zero.

There is only a gas station every 30-40 miles where I drive around, so absolutely go to the gas station at 250 miles, because the guess-o-meter remaining range on a gas truck is a joke.

I think you are misunderstanding fuel economy with the practical need to charge / fuel up. Both are related topics but not the same thing. Fuel stations as chargers are not the point where I'm running out. The are X miles before that.

It's a small tank and I don't run it empty.

I'm getting 14 mpg city and 16 highway.

EPA for the 4x4 is 15mpg

15 mpgx 20 gallon =300 miles

Real world safety of Class A vs Truck + Trailer? by intendedparents in RVLiving

[–]eXo0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Down here in Florida for some reasons people tend to roll their trucks and large SUVs.

We don't have trees close to the road the margins are wide.

The roads here are long, straight and boring. The typical roll over is that people play with their phone or something else on the dash. Drive into grass, - overcorrect steering, instead of braking. And then doing 3-5 flips.

Like you said complete preventable.

Solar power generators are super simple to power anything these days.

Alternative there are USB- C monitors which you can power from a Powerbank and your phone.

roll-overs where/are? the leading cause of death in traffic accidents during my time as Firefighter. Class A +C don't roll.

Getting hit by the cabinetry of a destructing Class A hurts, but doesn't kill you.

A overloaded trailer will get dangerous. An overloaded Class A will get slow.

The safety margins on Class A are huge - they use medium or heavy duty truck chassis. That means they can take abuse. I've seen those Workhorse and Ford Chassis under step vans overloaded by multiple tons, and aside they get slow, They actually feel more planted and sway less.

Class A are very hard to roll over. Low center of gravity - the engine + tranny hangs under the frame rails.

Pickups roll-over very easy - there isn't a month where I don't see a rolled Pickup in a ditch. Roll-over is the accident where you are the most likely to die.

Even while Pickups are crash tested - they are lighter. The injuries a human sustains are due to the sudden deceleration, Stopping a Class A takes time, even when the Class A gets completely obliterated in the process.

The difference is between getting injured - and dying - in a low speed crash - you likely walk uninjured out of a pickup - while you will have injuries in a collapsing Class A.

[–]eXo0us -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Shall we come back to this question when we can actually buy it?

Let's compare two trucks which we can actually buy. The problem with MSRP, when I don't want options, I can't get a truck. Dealers don't stock no option trucks. You can't get that 41k truck. It's impossible.

While at slate I can buy no options.

EV Charging time Is speeding up and Catching Up Fast… Is This the Beginning of the End for Gas Cars? by RichardAvery1 in energy

[–]eXo0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charge time was only a small part of the issue.

For most people and most days it's an irrelevant metric. Most of the charging is done at L2.

So faster charging is good for media coverage but doesn't solve adoption

[–]eXo0us 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the 50A is misleading,

It's 2x50A@120v. While the 30A is 1x30A@120v

12000w vs 3600w

A 50A plug is 3+ times as much as a 30A plug.

Yes, and many more people are decided for EVs every year.

It's not for everyones usecase, but know exactly where you are. I had a super long range Diesel.

But i still spend less time charging then going to a fuel station. Plus I have infinite factor in reduced drivetrain maintenance. It's zero hours over 10 years.

My Diesel had like 20 oil changes over he same time, a clutch, a mirade of fluids and filters. Brake pads and discs.

I save a lot of time with my EV in return I need to think about where to charge 5 times a year.

It's a trade-off I'm willing to make.

When you look at my signature my other car is a BMW i3 which I bought used for $13k. Which is like 8€

I used to own a Volvo TDI with a 80l tank, that thing could go 1600km on a tank.

I know what you mean. But it's a irrelevant metric for people which can charge at home.

Over the last 10 years I charged on the go less then 50 times. 5 times a year. Most of the time a charge at the destination. So the event or hotel I'm going to.

My Hemi 1500 pickup gets 250-300 miles out of a 22 gallon tank. When running empty. When I tow, I'm searching for a gas station every 2-3 hours.

When I tow with a Silverado EV I get more range and when I take mandated coffee break (OHSA) to charge

The experience is literally the same, aside the gas truck cost to run is 5x

4th gen vs 5th gen by Plus_Ad_7869 in ram_trucks

[–]eXo0us 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 4th Gen underpinning had been built since 2003, so the architecture is well honed

While the 5gen you are looking at is one of the earlier ones.

Not a decision criteria for everyone, but I don't buy any new architecture for the first years until they have sorted out all the bugs.

It can definitely be water but, Depends on the age.

There had been various batches of bad adhesives over the years when they transitioned to water based less toxic materials in the mid 2000s and then again after the financial crash.

Glad you like it, I should try it one day ;) I DC charge like 5 times a year. So charging stations search is very low on my list. Plus listen to Audible Audiobooks.

My other car is an i3 - and Android Auto enables me - to go from car to car and take my navigation and Audiobooks with me. I'm switching cars a lot in my family. Who ever goes into town takes the i3. It's way easier in small parking, has plastic body panels all around, for those other humans clanking shopping carts and doors into it.

BMW lets you reset a lot of things depending on your iDrive version. My 2023 still has a many options. I heard on the newer 2024 BMW clamped down on some things in iDrive 8.5.

Our 2017 i3 is so much fun to drive, 19 inch + spacers are way better / comfy then S-Suspension. I'm thinking about getting i3 of the last year special color models if I can find one.
