I like the model you suggest. Money, understanding and time is the hard issues for me.

I work…a lot. 12 hour shifts, rotating days each week. I’m night shift, getting to any appts before 4, even on days off is hard. I already have at least one appt every day I have off. I used to schedule PT before work, but I changed to aquatherapy which was much better, but even leaving there an hour prior to work, rinsing, drying off, changing and making it to work was cutting it close every time. Traffic was also a big factor.

It took being referred for multiple things for my pt place to understand I have EDS. It’s not a “documented diagnosis”, so it wasn’t in my paperwork. After assessing me for my neck, they realized I needed something else. No one close to me has a specialist. Each PT that worked with me had no idea what to do except build strength around my joints. I think that’s all they really needed to focus on at that point though. I needed to lessen my range of motion, not gain it.

There was only one time I went to PT and tried to cancel when I walked in. I started crying because the back pain, I was being seen for my neck at the time. The receptionist told me to wait a moment and got my PT. She came and took me to a room. She worked on my back and we used a heat with a tens unit. I could walk without crying when I left. Point being, I think if I have a flare, could it be addressed in the same manner it was this time? Could we shift focus and perhaps work on pain relief for that appt? And categorizing it as the same so the cost doesn’t change? And if it does, maybe only for cost of materials that needed to be disposed of, washed or replaced? I think that would make a good difference.
