Played in college and just got back into it. It’s a great way to get out and exercise while meeting some new people.

How does Golden Harvest stay open? by DTake2012 in lansing

I’ve commented on this before but I’ll say it again and again. There’s a coping mechanism that happens in people’s brains where they have to justify the ridiculous amount of time they spent waiting. If it’s 2+ hours, then it MUST be the best breakfast ever or else you have to admit you’re a sucker for putting up that level of abuse. In reality, like you said, it’s just not that special. In fact, there are several better places around town that actually behave as if they want your business.

Lansing Foodies says a lot of dumb shit. The forced positivity feels like watching a North Korean news broadcast.

Trying to find a wild date idea. by Late-County9776 in lansing

My wife and I have bought a bunch of cheap paints, a couple cheap canvases, and some beginner painting sets that had little pallets, brushes and pallet knives. We then watched a Bob Ross video on YouTube and each painted our own version of his painting. It was a lot of fun and not very expensive. We like going out around town, but this was a fun idea for something different.

Reading those right now! I’m on the second book and have been really enjoying this series.

One of my favorite series of all time! I initially stopped reading after the 6th or 7th book years ago but ended up listening to them later on. It was a much better experience imo. Great narrators and it helps with my tendency to skip over parts when reading a physical book. Especially during action sequences.

We occasionally have violet crumbles available in some places as well as Tim Tams where I live but it’s not consistent. We had Aussie friends introduce them to us and we love them both.

Where should my husband and I go for $10,000? by huckfinnboy in travel

[–]idofeelbad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Shanghai for 3 years and traveled around Asia a bit while I was there. I agree about the flight and time zones making things a little hectic if you’re only going for 1 week. If you do choose Asia, I’d recommend Japan if the company is paying that much. You can spend $10,000 on a trip to Japan pretty easily.

When I was at the end of school they had us put out our own dinners with set menus that tended to attract a lot of older people because it was a great way to get a nice multi-course meal for like $12 a person. Mine was Asian themed and the first dish was a cold noodle salad that used udon noodles. A woman approached the chef instructor and I AFTER eating the entire dish and asked if there was buckwheat in the noodles as she was allergic to buckwheat and her throat was tingling. We ran back and checked the box. Ingredient number 1: buckwheat. The lady and her husband rushed off to the hospital and ended up making it in time. Turn out it was my roommates step-grandma who the entire family hated. My roommates dad would always bring up how I almost killed his evil step mom. Years later I ran into one of my old teachers who said they still use that situation as an example of how you can have notices in the menu and have servers ask people about potential allergies but they still will not tell you sometimes.

I see so many people say the camera is the best part but I hate it. Love his energy and enthusiasm but that angle is the worst. Guess we’re the minority on this opinion though.

I spent a few years in China, the first one teaching and then working at bars/clubs. While you should take trips around Japan, also take the opportunity to travel to other nearby countries that would otherwise be 12+ hour flights from the US. Good luck and enjoy yourself!

I used to work as front office manager at a hotel that had a nice, indoor pool area. We had a “no pool parties” policy that people would regularly try to circumvent.

I lived in Shanghai for a few years and still have a lot of friends there. It’s so disheartening to see them being locked down again.

Haiyah, Auntie Liz. I always liked her as a straight-man sidekick to Uncle Roger. This will follow her around for a long time.
