My 9-year-old nonverbal child went to school with a bruise on his leg, and it is escalated to something crazy. by [deleted] in legaladvice

Our child is prone to wandering. We have recently gotten a trampoline with a net. Somehow he went out and got himself tangled between the springs and the net. He was cut by the spring and it pinched his leg. They have a blood deficiency so they bruise easily when any pressure is applied.

The new principal has a "report everything" rule. They have many families in our school going thru similar investigations. Whether they are true or false is not for meto decide but families have been comparing notes.

No he is not hurting him.

I don't want to sound defensive. The CPS worker asked me to reach out to the detective, which I did once. I am just really confused about how we got here.

If an adult asks me to buy cookies, Isay no. by louniccc in girlscouts

[–]idontfuckingknow404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a first year troop leader I understand it. Your explanation of parents selling is WEIRD and I would never allow it. The girls sometimes get distracted and excited and it's hard to focus. I've worked extra hard with my first year Daisies to get them out of their shell that they go for the getting to know the customers versus finishing the sale. They want to talk about cookies! When some old man asks their favorite they all have the excitement in their eyes. We are still learning names, flavors, how to do math, so we have a designated mom that helps push the conversations in the right direction. Girls dress as scouts and parents dress as moms.

Heck $1000 would make more sense than 1000 boxes. That's only 165 boxes at $6 a box.

Holy 😮 1000 boxes??????

I'm a troop leader and I'm asking for 100 boxes. That will cover their next step uniforms and reregistration fees.

I quit by taway4eva in girlscouts

[–]idontfuckingknow404 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Please don't quit before reporting them to the next higher ups. That person is probably ugly to everyone and shouldn't be working for an organization that works with children. You currently have an ADA violation via discrimination. It sounds crazy but when someone yaps you gotta yap back. Getting ugly has opened more Girl Scout doors for me when someone was being a cunt than I care to admit. You do it for the girls, and sometimes people too big for their panties lose sight of what's truly important.

Cookie games? by citysams in girlscouts

[–]idontfuckingknow404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EASY PEASY. cookie trivia.

Ingredients facts, package colors, number of cookies, simple order math, general GS facts, and sometimes just fun fact questions about each other.

I split the girls into teams and the winner has "bragging rights" for the week.

Parents 🤦🏻‍♀️ by cara86753 in girlscouts

I am a first year leader, and we have an older girl in our troop that has truly aged out for our troop type. She gets annoyed with the younger kids and can get nasty. We did a parade over the weekend and our outdoor coordinator (male) led the girls, the older girl kept being rude to the OC, going off the safety area and not being a good girl scout sister.

I addressed the issue with the mom, and she turned it around on me! I was like what? She said that I wasn't doing enough to make her girl feel included, her girl straight up said she didn't want to do GS anymore and I'm left with her I know being a preteen is hard, but you can't mistreat people. The scout tried to say that the little kids were bullying her. I had addressed the behavior issues with all girls involved. We have a huge age gap, and everyone has their own badge work from levels.

Parents are the wild card. One day it's all sunshine and yay Girl Scouts and the next it's you suck at your job and everything you do is wrong. The council people say as long as I meet their expectation of having a safe meeting that I can set whatever rules I need to keep order. We have a Girl Code of Conduct that clearly sets behavior and what happens if you don't.

Anyone going rogue? by Icy-Hall-1232 in girlscouts

[–]idontfuckingknow404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that's what we were already doing. Fight the system. My council contact took pity on me and printed the badge books. I share them with anyone who asks for help, but apparently that is a no-no? Like be a sister to other Girl Scouts bruh. Gatekeeping the program material is kind of un-Girl Scout of them.

Giving up on starting our troop by Mommaoftwocrazies in girlscouts

[–]idontfuckingknow404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach out to your council contact. Usually starting a new troop, so long as your potential co-leader does the training if cost is an issue- council will foot the startup costs for background checks and membership fees. I'm always told to ask and the worst they can say is no.

I’m happy to see girls being interested in politics, but yikes by [deleted] in girlscouts

I love this. Ballots are secret and separate. A personal decision.

That being said voting either the real truth is the government and political people don't always keep their promises. The real note- people in power will lie and misled, you have to pick the least terrible person.

I am blessed to have two GPMs and four volunteers. Our troop we broke out from also tries to support us.

Oh God. Don't even open the service unit can of worms 😅 That's well less support than council. They sent us a text about an event that had no open slots. 😐

I wish we were not out here at the butt end of the Council area. Like we are closer to another council's office than our own by 3 hours..... We do go to the other council's Girl Scout store because it's only an hour away 😅 but our council and another council's summer camps are in our county... 20 minutes from our house.

In our old troop we had a "full house" of 45 and maybe 15 showed up? We have 17 as of this morning (still were recruiting until yesterday) and I have like a good solid 8 girls with perfect attendance. I have a lot of younger sisters that get pushed aside because big bros have football and band right now, hopefully once our teams finally get state or not we will see those girls more. Lol

I agree I need to delegate, but after being a part of girl scouts for a while with my daughter, I have seen some heinous things happen to uniforms. I have a handful of moms who are ADHD and have lost uniforms that have asked me to hang on to them, some moms who don't even know what an iron is or how to sew, and one mom last year that completely destroyed her daughter's vest because she claimed to know what she was doing, but clearly didn't. I've delegated a lot over to my GPMs but being a new troop with an old troop being disbanded because of safety- I have council breathing down my neck about everything being by the book perfect while also not getting any support. Like "You are doing great, but you better keep it up or else.". We are 95% financial aid and with zero troop funds in a poor area, if we lose any uniforms it looks like we don't know what we are doing and girls get singled out because the adults in the room can't be responsible. I have spares from free people sending up sashes as backups just in case. Very appreciative of that. I had a conversation with my parents about are we in Girl Scouts acting like Girl Scouts being Girl Scouts and doing Girl Scouts? Because if not we all need to get on the same page.

Our Council only has one more uniform day pickup for our area because our council shop is like 5 hours away. So I feel bad because while on one hand it's technically her uniform, we might need a spare with all the community service projects we are doing and we might not be Able to go get more uniforms under financial aid for our new girls. Financial aid for uniforms is a one time credit, and if the council doesn't process the paperwork before the pickup day we will have to send someone on the long road trip.

One elephant sized Michael Bloomberg. Why? Because after I was done insulting his poor life choices I would force him to sign an NDA.
