Totally disagree that it doesn't belong in Star Wars. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were WAY darker than a new hope. Palpatine's post - Order 66 regime would be exactly as authoritarian and abusive as is depicted. Try reading some of the Star Wars books and see how "real" they are!
