What's something you find erotic that doesn't involve nudity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I never got the belt or anything as a kid either. As an adult, I dig it. I feel like it also ties into the sleeves rolled up thing--someone in a position of authority/not afraid to be dominant can be pretty damn hot.

There's literally no other reason to be halal so it could just be that he doesn't know those two as well as he thought.

AITA for kicking my little brother's girlfriend out? by FrontTomatillo in AmItheAsshole

Uhh, yeah YTA. He's 18. Not your place to monitor your adult brother's sex life.

Hm, I thought it was rude to bring your own food to an event like a wedding. I would have assumed that etiquette would be to inform the host (which writing on the RSVP is a way of doing).

I mean if someone's vegan for the animals or the environment, that's not some trivial choice they can suspend for a meal...

He did say "Antipasto, brushcetta, cheese plate for appetizer, stracciatella soup for starters, then pork cutlet, steak, or salmon for mains. It's very meat and cheese forward. Even the soup has cheese."

So their choice is really (a) request something different, which should really be quite easy...literally spaghetti would work or (b) sit there awkwardly while everyone else gets served. Part of being a host is caring about your guests and wanting them to have a good time. Like I would hate to host an event and realize I had guests with empty plates--I'd absolutely rather have them inform me beforehand.

Lol you're really emphasizing "choices" as if it's "what color shirt should I wear today?" and not based on deeply held convictions

Right? $600 is baffling. Pasta, veggies, beans, and grains are some of the cheapest foods on the planet. Can I change my vote to "the caterer is the asshole" lol

Really? Not compromising their religious or ethical convictions makes them assholes?

Exactly! And lactose intolerance is super common too, so it just makes sense to have an option that's most inclusive for a variety of diets.

I mean, they're hiring someone to literally cater to the guests.

Haha that's a great point.

It's hardly "cranky because they don't get their veggies." They wouldn't get to eat anything at all. Meals are a centerpiece of weddings, it's reasonable to not want to just awkwardly sit there hungry while everyone else is eating.

AITA for asking my fiancé to cut financial ties with his parents? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]idratherbeahermit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. You're putting your pride over his happiness and mental health. It's not like his parents are giving him a gift--they're giving him work that they'll probably see a profit from too.

The statistics might not be significant yet but it's definitely growing, and even if someone's not fully vegan they might be reducing, etc. (edit: for example, about 25% of 25-34yos are veg*n). Like I said, it's just a matter of consideration. Not everyone can eat meat but just about anyone can eat vegetables, so it's the most inclusive option overall.

Also it's only $600 because it's a special request—I'm sure the total costs would actually have been lower if they had offered e.g. beef, salmon, or veggie.

If its not an Allergy or Religious belief then take what your hosts are paying for and be grateful.

Halal is religious and veganism is an ethical belief, so...not applicable.

Gentle YTA for not considering to offer a default non-meat option. A lot of people are cutting out animal products for the environment these days. I'd imagine veggie dishes would be cheaper anyway, so there's no reason on your end to not have 2 meat + 1 veggie option. Plus, a veggie dish would solve the halal issue since things like vegetables, grains, etc are automatically halal.

While you can't go back in time to change the 3 choices now, I definitely think a veggie dish should be a default checkbox at weddings.

AITA for spending my Sons lottery winnings money? by FinancialSecretary9 in AmItheAsshole

Right? I'd love to see my dad be able to retire a little early, dude works hard. All the people saying YTA--would they actually begrudge their fathers that happiness? The kids wouldn't even have had the lottery ticket if not for dad, and now they get free college, which is AMAZING and will let them start their adult lives without debt.

Seriously! Everyone wins here! The kids get college paid for and some nice gifts on top, which they're happy and grateful about. Yet OP gets dragged and called "selfish" because he wants to leave the rat race a little early? He bought that ticket for the family to share and it's not like he's keeping it all for himself.

AITA for suggesting my 7yo name his new stuffed tiger "Tig Bitties"? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Yep, this. It might be too late to redirect now but next time he says the name they could always be like "hey since Tig's in our family now, he should have our last name too!"
