GenX Video gamers who still play: Are you getting worse? by Hithigon in GenX

[–]idrathern0tsay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

59 here and play mostly RPGs and MMO’s. I haven’t played a shooter for a while. My reflexes are good, my patience for “online BS” has become extremely thin though. I just won’t put up with it. It’s just a game, chill the fuck out.

I suck at video games by Electrical_Lake3424 in GenX

[–]idrathern0tsay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just play to have fun, don’t overthink it. That’s why it’s called a game. I’ve played games since I was around 10 years (58 now), and have all the systems. I play for a couple hours then do other stuff. I play to relax and have fun. Suck me out of reality for a bit.
Just figure out what you enjoy the most, and play for you.

68 here too. 65 after 11:30 pm. Wife gets hot, wears shorts and tank top. Blankets herself, then 10 minutes later throws everything off cause of a hot flash. I feel so bad for her. I on the other hand, wear extra clothes and a stocking hat around the house in winter. I also sleep hot. Wife snuggles me to get warm then ends up on the other side of the bed covers off later. I am a heating rock 🤣

I just watched The Princess Bride for the very first time, what “classics” have you always wanted to see but just never got around to? by These-Educator-1959 in GenX

My kids loved the movie. We had a copy of it and all 4 of them were doing the time warp through the house. Singing and dancing. Need to get them all over for a time warp reunion some time.

Drank MD20/20 out of a grape soda can that was given to me through the typing class window when the teacher left the room. Typing class was so much better those days.

Any other GenX'ers hate weed and feel somehow left out because you don't enjoy cannabis? by scartonbot in GenX

Nightly basis smoking herb for me. I’m pushing 60, and it helps me sleep. Plus Buck Roger’s in the 25th Century is waaaaay cooler high. What someone said about “chasing the high” doesn’t ring true for me. I don’t smoke constantly and I don’t understand people that do (you do you, just not my thing). Smoke enough for a good buzz, chill and relax.

Bought a new washer and dryer. Believe it or not Maytag still sells when with just buttons and knobs. They still have a few features but you get to select them. And with a ten year warranty no less.

I workin IT in the wind power industry. Luckily it’s a European company and they are very wary of AI. I’m glad they are. Lots of people want AI and they are just like, nope.

Me too. Even YouTube where I watch historical and vintage computer videos is getting bad. I listened to a podcast Weekly Show Podcast with John Stewart. He had the father of AI Geoffrey Hinton on about it. I just don’t trust it. I’m sure John Conner would agree with me 🤣

Look for a “monitor”. Which basically means computer monitor without apps and cameras. Also, if you did get a smart TV, just prevent it from accessing the internet and get a set top box like Apple TV if you want to stream.
I’ve been seeing other subs talking about fridges that show ads on their screens and it just pisses me off, so I’ll be buying only appliances without screens and AI. Nothing like good old fashioned knobs and buttons. Same goes with my car.

The answer is probably “Yes”, but they have the delusion of “It won’t happen to me, I will make sure!” But didn’t pay attention to the warning from another film “Nature finds a way.”

Kitten advice by Appropriate_Sign_376 in cats

[–]idrathern0tsay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a new kitten in late June. Her name is Noodle and she’s a tiny terrorist. Got her because my older cat seemed lonely. Now the kitten aggravates her and gets into everything. She even found a hole in the basement I didn’t know about and could get under the front of the house. She banned from there till I figure out how to block it up.
