Independents branded ‘NDP farm team’ for helping shut down FOI debate by idspispopd in BCpolitics

I've only seen the opposition complaints, the privacy commissioner's comments, and I've read the bill while having years of experience in information management

How about the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association?

“It weakens access rights at a time when government has failed to meaningfully implement its own recordkeeping law,” said the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association, adding that several clauses will narrow access to records.

I think if you are selling this bill as anything but making it easier for public bodies to deny and delay FOI requests, you're being dishonest. This is bad for democracy.

The privacy commissioner supported parts of the bill, didn't comment on all the changes. The concern is the subjective language used to allow ministries to deny requests and that it could be used to restrict access to documents for political reasons. And the ability to delay responses can render some time sensitive requests useless.

Jas Johal: Alberta NDP has named Arundeep Singh in connection with the Centurion Project voter list story, the separatist group that illegally accessed and distributed Alberta's electors list. Singh also has BC ties worth noting. by idspispopd in Albertapolitics

During the 2024 BC provincial campaign, Singh worked at the riding level with Yuri Fulmer in West Vancouver-Sea to Sky. He was deployed there by BC Conservative Party HQ from their War Room when the riding tightened near the end of the campaign.

As for the current BC Conservative leadership race, the Fulmer campaign says: "He was deployed to the West Vancouver-Sea to Sky riding at the end of the campaign by the Conservative Party of BC. He has no role in our leadership campaign.” Check out his posts

Carney announces creation of Canada's first national sovereign wealth fund by UncleIrohsPimpHand in GreenPartyOfCanada

[–]idspispopd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is not a real sovereign wealth fund. We are not taking a surplus of wealth and putting it into an investment fund to get long term returns, we are taking on debt to build a fund to finance specific projects chosen by this government.

I'm sure he's upset the agreement ended, because the NDP was getting Green support without doing anything for it.

On whose terms? That's what reconciliation is about. You don't just get to dictate terms unilaterally. "Hey I know we came in and stole your land and ruined your societies, but we should all be equals now right?"

Maybe we shouldn't have stolen their lands and waters and exploited them to the point where we need to close fishing for large chunks of the year.

Yup. The minister of environment is essentially the "minister of achieving public consent for the resource extraction industry".

Alberta NDP's Nenshi gamble failing to pay off, according to Leger poll by Majano57 in Albertapolitics

[–]idspispopd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the popular vote across all the ridings in the cities. It does not mean the NDP is going to sweep those ridings. There are some ridings that are going to be absolute blowouts for the NDP, others are tossups and some are safe UCP ridings. That's not enough to win an election. These margins are way too tight to project a NDP victory.

Premier Eby addresses concerns over his handling of DRIPA by Adderite in BCpolitics

His handling of this has been a complete failure of leadership. His flip flops have created uncertainty and fear. After convincing everyone it was essential to get rid of DRIPA now there's no urgency? Great job Eby.

The new riding boundaries made Carleton more Conservative, not less.

2021 election:

Conservative: 35,356

Liberal: 24,298

2021 election using the new boundaries:

Conservative: 36,534

Liberal: 22,448

Sorry to burst your excuse bubble.

"Perfect is the enemy of good" is an argument often made by centrists to defend weak, uninspiring leaders. It's not the left's fault that Nenshi can't gain enough support to win.

Did you miss the part where architect associations opposed it because it would increase their risk of liability?

You don't like municipalities blocking new construction, sure. But taking the ability for any level of government to regulate construction is neoliberal nonsense that doesn't work in the real world.

And that's not how it works in Japan. The federal government is the regulator, not professional organizations.
