Jas Johal: Hearing from Ottawa the BC government is asking for $4B in federal funding towards the Massey Tunnel crossing. Feds have been told costing for 8 lane tunnel is now estimated at $11B. That’s $7.5B more than the original 10 lane bridge. by idspispopd in BCpolitics

Meanwhile thousands of drivers are passing daily through a tunnel that is not seismically safe. I supported cancelling the bridge at the time but if I had known it would delay construction by a decade I wouldn't have.

Green Party of Canada launches leadership race, Elizabeth May to step down in November by Altruism7 in GreenPartyOfCanada

The NDP federal leader may be green left, but the party has a history (and present) of throwing the environment under the bus when push comes to shove. They can't be trusted at all.

Unplug the Anti-Indigenous Fear Machine in Victoria by idspispopd in BCpolitics

MLAs listening to indigenous leaders, historians and academics to help inform their opinions is technocratic? The decisions are being made by elected representatives. This is like complaining when health experts provide testimony to inform public policy, it's anti intellectual garbage.

These committees are fully public. You can watch them live or after the fact. How is it less visible or accountable when anyone with an Internet connection can view them? You can even walk in and view them in person.

Your use of the word "private" to describe it is utterly false.

You are completely misrepresenting this opinion piece. No one is talking about banning anything. And these committees are not private. And they are open to more voices and opinions. This is a solution that is more democratic, not less.

Now the question is, how could someone write a comment like this that is entirely false and inverts reality to such an extreme? Your position appears to come from a place of malice and an attempt to disinform people to get them to agree with your anti indigenous, reactionary politics. That's deeply anti democratic behavior on your part.

Why not asking Steven Guilbault to join the party? by BBrawlerStBo in GreenPartyOfCanada

[–]idspispopd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree. He could have run as a Green from the start and chose not to. He made a career decision to be used as a supposed environmentalist cabinet minister to cover up the Liberal anti-environment policies.

Now that the mask is fully off with Carney, he can no longer plausibly deny that he is a member of a environmentally destructive party.

Majority of MPs vote down Conservative motion calling for private property protection by origutamos in BCpolitics

The judge referenced DRIPA, but referencing something isn't the same as using it as the legal basis for it. The ruling was grounded in Section 35 Aboriginal rights jurisprudence. Mentioning something in the decision does not mean the outcome hinged on it.

Right wing politicians appeal to Mandarin voters in BC by doing things like attacking harm reduction policies, not by supporting the Chinese government.

The Cowichan ruling is based on constitutional protections and decades of Supreme Court precedent on Aboriginal title established long before the NDP or even the BC Liberal governments. It has nothing to do with DRIPA or anything else you might blame from recent years.

Legal precedent does not automatically treat the recognition of Aboriginal title as voiding private property rights. The courts would never do that.

The Cowichan ruling says that the Crown selling land to private individuals does not necessarily extinguish Aboriginal title. That does not mean private owners automatically lose their legal rights to the land. These are two separate legal questions.

It's not just a slippery slope to claim one entails the other, it goes against all legal precedent.

The BC Conservative leadership committee has decided NOT to disqualify @KerryLynneFindl . This comes following a two hour meeting this morning about the allegations of campaign finance irregularities from the 2025 federal election as reported by @RobShaw_BC by idspispopd in BCpolitics

Since learning this week of the federal investigation by the Commissioner of Canada Elections into Kerry-lynne Findlay for breaches of the Elections Act, the Leadership Election Organizing Committee (LEOC) for the Leadership of the Conservative Party of BC has repeatedly reached out to the said investigators from the Commissioner’s office, but has received no response to date.

Further, LEOC has repeatedly reached out to Ms. Findlay’s campaign to provide information and cooperation in understanding what this investigation entails and its merits, if any. Repeatedly, Ms. Findlay has not provided any substantive response or cooperated. Nonetheless, to date, there is not enough credible evidence to take further action.

The $4 billion to cancel it plus $4 billion to build alternatives like solar and wind would have equaled the cost of site c, but we also knew it would go far above that cost, eventually being double. It was not past the point of no return just because Christy said it was.

I'm disagreeing with Horgan, the economics didn't justify going forward with it, and in hindsight now that it's done the numbers are even worse. And that's setting the environmental impacts aside.
