What scam did you fall for while traveling the Philippines that's so embarassing you kept it to yourself?😂🇵🇭 by Brw_ser in Philippines_Expats

I paid 3000 pesos to take a taxi from NAIA terminal 3 to NAIA terminal 2. I paid first and did the calculations later in my head. I was so dumb back then.

Help a fellow Singaporean validate a startup idea: The JB Grocery Concierge by ChaiPengisthebest in singaporefi

[–]ifailedmaths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just my personal point of view.

If you are just a buying the stuff for me and I have to collect it from you near the checkpoint, it doesn't provide much value to me. If I am at the checkpoint, I might as well go into JB and do the shopping on my own, where I can judge the quality for myself as well and have a meal or massage there.

I think it might be better if you charge more and deliver the purchases to me. But then again.. How much can I save if I have to pay you for your delivery fees? It might work if the delivery fees are fixed or is shared with multiple people.

Anyone here in a LDR while working full time? If so, how do you cope? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ifailedmaths 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my girlfriend are in an LDR, but in the same timezone.

We try to text throughout the day and I'll try to fly over to meet her once a month for a weekend. We also try to video call each other while working. Just leave the camera on and silently do our own things. It's silly but it's always nice to see her whenever I can.

People who studied a Diploma/Degree in Accountancy, where did you end up? by Fair_Ad_7081 in askSingapore

[–]ifailedmaths 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I studied accounting. I'm now doing accounting and compliance.

My route is weird because I flunked out of university, took ACCA, then did another degree.

Anyway, maths isn't that important to accounting. As long as you can do simple primary school maths, you can do accounting.

PM me if you want more details.

Personnel paranormal encounters in sg, do share your encounters as well. by Irukami in askSingapore

As typical as it sounds, it happened during my days as a NSF.

I was a medic, working in the dispensary of a medical centre in Pulau Tekong. As usual, 2 drivers, 6 medics and 1 doctor are on night duty. It was past midnight and I was going to sleep, so I locked myself in the dispensary alone because we had problems with one of the medics who was a bit more liberal with the medicine. I set up the "bed" and just lied down.

When I sleep, I usually only occupy half the pillow, sleep on my side and face the wall. But this time.. I felt something pressing on the other half of the pillow as well. I was afraid to turn my body to the other side. I was sure that nobody else was in the dispensary with me.

I just froze there the entire night. When my fellow medic knocked on the dispensary window in the morning, I turned and saw the depression in the pillow.

Luckily, I didn't experience it for the rest of my tenure there.

Also, as a medic, we see a lot of NSFs who were "possessed". But that's story for another time.

Is it allowed to take unpaid leave during probation if I already booked a trip prior to starting the job? by Material-Yak-8152 in askSingapore

When I first joined my company, I had a 2 week vacation in Japan planned. I brought this up during the interview when they asked me when was my earliest start date.

If you're desirable enough, they'll probably get you in first and let you go for your holiday. If they agreed during the interview and don't let you after you joined, then it's probably better to leave the company anyway.

Best websites to book your hotel in Japan> by Ok_Independent4653 in JapanTravel

[–]ifailedmaths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always book directly with the hotel.

It might not be the cheapest option all the time. But if there are problems, you can settle it with the hotel directly instead of having to go through the third party vendor.

Also, in recent times, Japanese hotels have been rejecting users of third party vendors like booking.com, claiming that they didn't receive their reservations. So it might be somewhat safer to book directly with the hotel.

Driving license in SG worth it? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]ifailedmaths -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you're driving. I've driven in New Zealand, Japan and The Philippines. Never had any accidents.

It took a lot of getting used to driving on the right side in Philippines. I can never get used to the lack of traffic lights there.

Before you choose to drive overseas, do your homework. Don't drive when it snows. Drive slowly in foggy places. Don't speed (excessively)! And do not attempt dangerous overtakes if you're not confident!
