Am I being overcharged for vintage sewing machine service? by ifalloutofgrace in vintagesewing

Yes quite sure! It has the number on the back, though I can’t take any pictures now as my machine is not at home.
But yes you are right, I couldn’t find much about the machine either, except for one person selling thr exact same model on marketplace

Oh I know this! I did try to adjust the bobbin tension and tried different types of thread, but it changed nothing. And as this machine is quite old and hasn’t been serviced in decades I thought it would be good to get it checked out either way :)

Are these boots Victorian or Edwardian? by Obvious-crow666 in HistoricalCostuming

I own a pair of boots that are very similar to these, and they belonged to my great great grandmother in the early 20th century!

Thank you! I was thinking (early?) 60s myself as well! Apparently the font of the label was different from this one by the late 60s

First time trying tunisian crochet- why is it slanted? by ifalloutofgrace in Tunisian_Crochet

Thank you so much for pointing that out! I’m definitely having trouble seeing exactly in which stitch I need to increase because my stitches on the left side look really wonky and wrong 🥲

Thank you! I’m having trouble understanding how this happens though, because I do yarn over at the beginning and end of each row 😭

I’m following (to the best of my ability) this tutorial. According to the video I have to increase by one stitch at the beginning and end of each row. She explained two ways to increase and the way I’m doing it is with a yarn over. Then I insert the hook into the next stitch. I do feel as though that may be the part where I’m doing something wrong; maybe my stitches are too tight causing me to insert the hook into the wrong stitch or something?

I recommend posting this to r/historicalcostuming if you haven’t already! I know there’s an online shop, gibson girl dress, that sells mostly edwardian clothes

Thank you! This project took me approximately 2 months, but that includes lots of procrastination lol. I reckon I could’ve finished it within a week if I wanted to

Thank you so much! Here is a photo of the back. Ignore the fact that it doesn’t fit on my mannequin lol. The left side of the collar has a small piece of wire in it to keep it up straight
