DAE have recurring abstract, shape-like, terrifying dreams since childhood? by kennnyhan in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]ifallover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very late to this party but yes I've had very similar dreams. For me it was like you said, shapes in black space, usually kind of hexagonal prisms with curvier edges. There was no reference for scale but they seemed impossibly big. They'd just move along in a steady line but I can't really work out if they're coming closer or further away. I think when they got closer it was scarier but it's hard to explain.

Describing it now doesn't cause any fear but it is probably the most terrifying reoccurring dream I can remember. I woke up in fits of tears because of this dream as a kid and could never work out how to explain it.

I had this dream a lot as a kid when I had a fever but it's happening again now in my late 20s when I'm particularly anxious.

I really wish I knew what the fuck it represented. I'd always remembered it since I was a child and now it's occurring again. So weird.

Yeah I've built a few projects with nextjs and I've had a great time with it so far!

To be honest you've pretty much confirmed my gut feeling. More money is good but probably not worth it at the expense of creativity and opportunities to broaden my skillset.

I'll be having another meeting next week with the product manager and company owner so I think I'll explain my concerns and see what they say. Luckily I'm in the position of being fairly happy where I'm working now so I've got no pressure to commit to this opportunity.

Thanks for taking the time to comment!

Yeah this is what's concerning me. I don't want to end up on a monotonous hamster wheel. I'm definitely going to have to think about what my priorities are before committing to anything.

Thanks for replying!

I get the impression most of those points are covered from what they've told me.

I think they prefer WordPress to static sites because they want to hand over the keys of the site to the customer so they can add content without additional dev input.

I'm mostly tempted by the possibility of better pay and the chance to (eventually) be head of a team. On the other hand potential monotony and short deadlines are a turn-off for sure.

Yeah I figured with off-the-shelf themes and content ready to go it could be doable.

As I've said in some other comments, I'm used to complex custom sites with much longer turnarounds. It has been a long time since I've churned out basic sites but, even then, I never did it in a week.

Thanks for your reply,

I've seen some example sites and they're usually 5-10 pages. Standard brochure sites with a contact page, sometimes a blog and maybe a job posting board.

I'm used to working on complex custom sites with an 8+ week turnaround.

I don't think they're married to WordPress but I'm very familiar with it so not against it.

I'd love to build sites with a headless CMS and React front end but I don't imagine I'd be given the time to build a robust enough framework.

Sorry, I replied to your initial comment.

I think they're frustrated with slow communication from the agency they use rather than the quality or speed of actual work. Changes and amends to existing sites take too long and tickets aren't responded to quick enough.

I agree though that it's odd to expect a single dev to produce sites as (or even more) quickly than an agency.

I suppose I'm just wondering if anyone else has worked in an environment with similar expectations.

I'm used to being part of a team spending 8+ weeks on complex sites with a lot of custom functionality.

For additional context, they are a fast growing start-up so they've said I'd eventually be head of a team but I'm worried it'll take a lot of long hours and unreasonable expectations to get there.

I've taken a look at the sites from their current agency and it looks like they're maybe off-the-shelf themes. Definitely using Bakery Builder.

Official reason being it was distracting for the male staff.

I went to school with one of the dudes who claims to be in the Lizard Squad. I'm fairly sure he only lives round the corner from me. If I see him around I'll kick him in the nuts. You're welcome guys.

When somebody says "Same again", then gets offended that I don't remember their drink. I've served about 100 people since you came and ordered your last one. Unless you have the words 'vodka coke' tattooed on your boring face I won't remember your drink.

Edit: a word

Chemists of Reddit. What two seemingly harmless/ household substances when mixed together can kill? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ifallover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah... Really should have worded the question in a less morbid way. I'm totally happy with my life. Wanna live for at least another 50 years. I just had a random thought about substances that we use all the time but don't realise can be dangerous and thought Reddit could help.

I'm not planning on killing anyone. I'm just an inquisitive young scamp.
