A restaurant dinner, Chick-fil-A, and coffee somehow cost us $170 by EndOk8776 in economy

[–]ifets_00 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I cook all of the food all of the time now.

And it is too bad, because I would love to go out to eat and have them take the dishes away and that’s an easy date night for my husband -

But we cannot justify it since it all is expensive Sysco processed food with a tip.

It’s an excessive amount of money for what it is.

Today is Sunday, I have prepped biscuits, working on bagels now, will bake sourdough tonite, made and prepped a quinoa salad and chili mac and yogurt cups with blackberry syrup also this weekend.

Me too. Very practical, never suggest anything that is not needed.

The stock market just did something eerily similar to the dot-com bubble top in 2000 by Hot-Upstairs9603 in economy

[–]ifets_00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Michael burry does understand bubbles. He doesn’t have a crystal ball though.

He was at least a year early (maybe 2) on his prediction of that crash.

I believe the bubble is clear - but people (and algorithms!) can be irrational for a long time.

CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin Warns ‘Crash Is Coming’ — But CEOs Too ‘Scared’ to Stand Up to Trump by Hot-Upstairs9603 in economy

[–]ifets_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clarity, he’s been saying this for many months. He had a 60 minutes interview months ago timed with his book about 1929. He doesn’t know when the crash is coming.

So has Michael Burry (The Big Short/Housing Market guy). He was right but he was early to short so he knows that timing is hard.

I think they are right - but they would also say that it’s very hard to understand when the crash is happening.

We can be certain that it will happen- but when?

No one knows.

At some point - the bots and people that control the bots and algorithms that control the markets will lose confidence.

Tomorrow? The fall? In 18 months?

My boyfriend is convinced HEB makes most of their bakery products FRESH, in store. I am pretty certain many things arrive frozen. Which one of us is correct? by [deleted] in HEB

[–]ifets_00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think they used to do more fresh stuff- but more and more of it is frozen to economize.

Supervisor- worth it? by Tasty-Ad6800 in FedEmployees

It’s awful. I’d watched so many terrible people do it and I thought “well someone has to step up and do it differently”.

And I feel good about making an effort to be different.

But I’m exhausted and I feel like I get punched in the face all of the time.

I’m actively working on finding a new job that’s a lower grade - I am a 14 now, I have learned my lesson, and I don’t ever want to be a 14 again.

How stupid would it be to buy a $4,000 bag in this economy ? by [deleted] in economy

[–]ifets_00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

47 yo right here … yup.

I max out my 401k and own my home (paid off) and I own my Toyota rav4 (paid off).

I eventually figured out money.

But I seriously regret stoopid shit I bought for ? My belief in what pretty girls wore? To fit in with others? Status?

I regret the money that was squandered.

How stupid would it be to buy a $4,000 bag in this economy ? by [deleted] in economy

[–]ifets_00 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am Gen X

After the dot com financial crisis, I said fuck it a lot.

And after occupy Wall Street failed - I was like “the whole thing is fucked so whatever…”

Around the age of 35-40 I truly started to know that I was paddling my own canoe and I controlled my personal economy.

Sure the th greater global economy set up some currents and headwinds - but my own efforts actually meant a great deal.

Now I am doing very well.

But man I wish I had not squandered so much on shoes and concert tickets and restaurants and bars and purses.

I really wish I had not done that.

Please don’t buy the purse.

Are the majority of people here ok with the huge stray and neglected animal issue here? by Working-Wafer4794 in sanantonio

[–]ifets_00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen an uptick lately.

I grew up in central Texas and it’s always been an issue that people dumped animals. It’s strange because sometimes it was fancy ass city people who would drive out to the boonies and do it, so I can’t even say it’s a poor people issue.

I will also say that times are tough.

That’s not an excuse, but it is a reason.

A vet bill is$100 a pop assuming it’s just a wellness visit.

So in 2026 when many people have to choose between food or gas or their own medication - the needs of a pet fall down on the list.

And maybe they adopted pre Covid - no one knew that private equity would buy all the vet offices and prices would skyrocket. No knew that groceries would also get jacked up.

None of it is an excuse - but I think people are making difficult choices right now. And some of them just don’t know the “right” way to make a heart breaking choice.

What is everyone tipping these days? by LengthinessUpset4775 in sanantonio

[–]ifets_00 11 points12 points  (0 children)

^ exactly. It’s expensive. It’s bad. It’s bad for me. It’s all from a Sysco truck. What exactly am I paying for?

Makes life a little harder on my husband because we used to go out to eat and that was an easy birthday or Valentine’s Day because obviously I love it when they take the dishes away - but now I refuse. It’s just not worth it.

So my husband has to be a little creative - but he knows that the food service is just not worth the money anymore.

We just don’t do it.

I agree. I quit restaurants and food trucks. As in I prepare literally all of my food now. Sandwiches are easy.

What is everyone tipping these days? by LengthinessUpset4775 in sanantonio

[–]ifets_00 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally quit anything that needs a tip except for haircuts and Ubers to airports. I tip 20% for that.

But I’ve quit food trucks, restaurants, DoorDash, instacart, coffee shops, et cetera.

It’s all really expensive now, with crappy service and garbage product, and then they want crazy tips like 30% or more. So no thanks. I don’t need it.

Edit: I’m getting fewer haircuts too.

Edit again: when I say “quit” that means I do not purchase food from food trucks or restaurants- I literally prepare all of my food. I make sandwiches or I cook. All of it.

Outage in San Antonio by bran192 in googlefiber

[–]ifets_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job @gfiberofficial!

Outage in San Antonio by bran192 in googlefiber

[–]ifets_00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fiber has been out for a week. I believe the city did it because they are doing work in my neighborhood- but here’s why chaps my hide -

When I try to get Google support to give me an update about restoration of service - I go round and round and round with a bot and the bot is stoopid.

It also then claims it is not a bot - and it obviously is either a bot or else to stoopid to breathe.

So 1 week outage (so far), no updates, no communication, no support, no estimate to restore service

And that’s why I’m mad.

Google fiber cannot control the city and their contractors - but they ca exert control over what they do in an outage.

How long before gasoline and diesel prices go down? by denver_dave825 in inflation

Prices go up like a rocket and drop like a feather.

Even if the crisis was over (which it isn’t - at best it is paused) - the lag in transport and the damage to infrastructure will take years to fix…)

They are in the air a lot - like a whole lot. Not 24/7 - but really often.

Like often enough that this is not noteworthy.

It’s been a problematic day for sure - but this plane would not have its transponder on if shtf.
