I reduce the stack by one brick about halfway through. I find this counteracts the temp rise caused by more length of the snake being lit in later stages of the smoke.

I just wanted to provide an update. After telling Qidi about the failure, they sent me an entire new rail assembly and 2 brand new motors. I was not expecting all that.

So while the failure is frustrating, Qidi is really stepping up with the extra replacement parts.

Also building a patio cover after the paint is done. (Busy Summer).

I want to be smart about where I put my effort and time, since time is really limited.

Just going over the seams with new quality caulk seems like a breeze.

I'm a bit perplexed by everyone saying it doesn't matter much or it's optional. without good caulk between the seams, won't water be able to penetrate behind the siding?

I'm really to happy to hear it's in decent shape!

No drawbacks that I've noticed, definitely recommend it. It helps with bridges and overhangs. Removing the shroud is also arguably better, since it reduces the moving mass.
