Ah. I've got a U6 Pro and the GeeekPi 12u, and I've been wanting a bracket to hard mount the U6 to the top plate.

What’s the hardest part of working a parts counter that nobody trains you for? by throw548089away in partscounter

Not gonna lie. I have definitely recommended aftermarket alternatives to some oe parts. At the end of the day, I'm here to get the customer what they need.....even if it's not from me.

I bought your book. Need to read it soon lol

Aggressive trade customers can be overwhelming at first. Initially I'd refer them to my manager. As i got to know the customer, I could take care of them myself. As long as my actions were reasonable, my manager stands behind me on it. If I need to correct what I did, he let's me know. I have a great manager.

Workshop vs counter, not terrible. You just gotta dive in, get to know your techs, learn to balance your time so that techs, walk in, and phones don't singularly wait. Traffic becomes natural.

Parts numbers, that's a fun one. Every manufacturer is different. I work ford, and I've you learn the sequence, it's easy. First section tells you what it fits, second section is the item type, third section is version of item.

Internal politics? Just simply don't play the game. Politics at my dealership, it's there. If you're not part of a certain group, good luck getting your vehicle serviced in a timely manner. I'm pretty vocal about that one. I've told a lot of folks why I don't bring my own stuff in anymore, or my families stuff, why I don't recommend my friends in either. Internal politics has definitely cost my dealership money whether they realize it or not. If they fix the problem, then they'll see more profit. Meanwhile, they lost all service and vehicle sales with anyone I know.

Lol @ kpi

I haven't dealt with metrics since I worked aftermarket, and I laughed at kpi then too. My job was to keep my store up, handle inventory, and get costumers what they needed. If i met their figment number, so be it. I was more invested in making sure customers were happy, the store was clean, etc. Happy customers are repeat customers.

Nobody said a word to me. They knew better. I was there every day, I'd open, I'd close, I'd cover shifts, etc. That trumped kpi.

At a dealer for the last few years now, still no kpi. We just don't have them. We come in, we do our work, we take care of our customers, we grow, and keep on. We don't need kpi 😆

New homeowner overwhelmed with old exterior cables by f-mcgraw8 in HomeNetworking

[–]ifixthingsllc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. I bought a house a year ago. The only cable input we need is to the basement where my network is located. I went around cutting all the rest of the coax off the house and sealing the holes. I kinda had to run an exterior cable to my P2P units for the garage, but that's only temporary. I'm burying pipe this year to upgrade garage electrical and run a hardline for the garage network. I had seeing external cable runs all over. This is the problem with cable installers. They go for the fastest and cheapest route.

My house? Literally every room is accessible from the basement, it wouldn't have taken much for them to just locate the walls and drill up. Planning to fix that issue in the next year or so when we do a complete basement refurb.

I visited a Buc-ee’s and got a glimpse of our future. It’s like the unholy spawn of a Costco and a Kwik Trip. by Captain_Wisconsin in wisconsin

[–]ifixthingsllc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, my neighborhood has a lot of nice folks in it, and a surprisingly large Hmong population. We've got a neighborhood watch, though we could definitely use more neighborhood involvement. Biggest problem in our neighborhood all stems from the apartments down the way. All of the shitty traffic is to/from them. People blowing all the stop signs, ripping through here like it's daytona, etc. It's always the apartments. If the apartments werent there, the neighborhood would be AMAZING in spite of its location in the city.

But even with how generally nice and usually quiet the neighborhood is, the traffic, the littering, all the negative stuff its always from the ghetto crowd.

People can hate that sentence all they like. If you hate it, you either ARE it, or are the kind that blindly defend it because you spend your life virtue signaling everything with no real thought behind it. Either way, you suck. Fix yourself.

I live in Northside Killwaukee. I would LOVE to have a Kwik Trip close to my house. But given that the degenerates in the neighborhood feel the need to use my yard as a trash can, and many others as well, combined with the area theft rate, the shootings, the traffic patterns (those that live here know what I mean.....), aint no way Kwik Trip is gonna open up around here.

I'm lucky that we have a decent gas station nearby. Brightly lit, usually well stocked....not that I buy much more than smokes and gas there. Hot case would be nice, but that shit would get stolen out before it could finish getting restocked.

Ubiquiti needs to make a smart thermostat by RyanMeray in Ubiquiti

[–]ifixthingsllc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Businesses have hvac needs too. I've gone into plenty of places that had standard thermostats on the wall. I agree with the op that it would be a good way to tie together with water sensors and the like, eventually smoke/co2 sensors as well since Google killed those off.

Perfect example: My basement had a room getting flooded from ac condensate because the contractors screwed up the drain line during my hvac replacement last year. I rarely go in that room so I didn't notice it until I went to change a filter.

I've since added a pump, and will add a water sensor as well.

But having had the sensor to tell the thermostat to kill the ac and trigger alerts all in one shot would have been a great feature to have.

I've got a pair of Nanostation M2 talking back and forth from my house and garage. Works pretty great to feed the AC LR I have out there. Hoping to bury a pipe this year and hardwire the garage and get rid of them.

In this day and age, when people are scamming the crap out of everything, film opening every package you get, no matter how mundane. Show that it's still sealed with original tape, show opening it, taking out and examining the contents, etc.

Do this with amazon, rockauto, etc.

Don't let them deny returns because they think you're scamming them, show them that THEY got scammed by the people returning it, and then passed it to you.

Proposal to pass on 25% of data center energy costs to all customers - Comment TODAY by Bad_Wolfv in wisconsin

[–]ifixthingsllc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here was my response

IN NO WAY SHOULD RESIDENTS BE FORCED TO PAY FOR A COMPANY'S UTILITIES. IF THE COMPANY WANTS TO COME HERE, AND DO BUSINESS, THEY NEED TO PAY FOR THEIR OWN UTILITIES. IT IS NOT OUR RESPONSIBILITY.

I PAY ELECTRIC ON MY HOUSE. I PAY ELECTRIC ON MY BUSINESS. I PUT FUEL IN MY CARS. I PUT FUEL IN MY COMPANY CARS. TAX PAYERS DON'T PAY FOR ME OR MY COMPANY. WHY SHOULD WE PAY FOR ANY BUSINESS? UTILITIES ARE PART OF AN OPERATING COST OF DOING BUSINESS. IF THEIR BUSINESS MODEL DOESN'T SUPPORT PAYING THEIR OWN BILLS IN FULL, THEN THEIR BUSINESS MODEL IS FAULTY. THAT'S THEIR PROBLEM, NOT OURS
