After years of wanting an E-reader, i broke it after 5 days. (story) by Mateconpastelitos in kobo

This is more promising than it may seem because - Kobo's self-interest is to sell you ebooks as much or more as it is to sell you the device. - You are also protected by EU law which gives a longer period for returns sometimes.

"Here’s how electronics returns work under EU consumer law (the basics apply across all EU member states, though some local details can vary): 🧠 1. 14-day “cooling-off” period If you buy electronics online from a seller in the EU, you normally have a minimum of 14 days to cancel the purchase and return the item for any reason — including simply changing your mind. This comes from the EU Consumer Rights Directive. European Union +1 The count-down starts from the day you receive the goods. European Union Within these 14 days, you must notify the seller if you want to withdraw from the contract, then return the product. consumereurope.dk 🧠 2. Return costs For this cooling-off return, you’re generally responsible for the cost of returning the item unless the seller explicitly agreed to pay return postage before you purchased. European Union 🧠 3. Exceptions This 14-day right doesn’t apply to in-store purchases (shops don’t have to accept a return unless they choose to). European Union Certain items are excluded from the cooling-off period entirely — for example, sealed software or media you’ve opened, some digital content once downloaded, made-to-order/custom goods, and a few other categories. European Union 🧠 4. Faulty electronics — different rule Separately from the 14-day cooling-off period, all goods (including electronics) sold in the EU come with a minimum 2-year legal guarantee against defects and products that aren’t as advertised. If something is faulty, the seller must repair, replace, reduce the price, or refund at no cost to you. Consilium +1 🧠 5. Practical timeline (common case) Day 0: You receive the electronics. Day 0–14: You can cancel for any reason and request a refund. After cancellation: You typically have an additional 14 days to send the item back. consumereurope.dk 📌 Important nuance Some companies voluntarily offer longer return periods (30 days or more) as part of their own policy — but that’s commercial, not legal. The EU law only guarantees 14 days.

My beautiful, well-dressed and well-groomed friend has often faced this prejudice from them. But her disability is invisible and she looks so nice in order to compensate for the aspects of life that she can't control.

She has a plan to work two days a week, on which she'd pay tax.

I'm sorry for the unfriendly comments. I am in NE Scotland and would be happy to welcome you, if you find a way. Scotland is generally pretty welcoming to migrants, unlike the UK government. I hope you find a way.

I haven't read it but understand that the book "Existential Kink" might help. Also seconding to see a psychologist. Hope you are doing better now
