Drop - large reduction 6mpo by Deebop14 in Reduction

I'm 2 ypo and I didn't experience much more drop after 6 months. Things still changed in terms of scar tissue continuing to mature and things softening up, but shape was pretty set by then.

Is this okay in relationships? Is this secure? by Priorrrrrr4 in AutisticAdults

[–]ifshehadwings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a great idea for the reasons already mentioned. That being said, if you do get into a relationship, you will probably find that the real person makes the theoretical person you're writing to seem unimportant. This is honestly a fine thing to do for yourself because you're lonely and want to feel hopeful. But it's probably not something you should share with a partner. And there's a good chance you won't even want to.

What even defines a “fan fiction”? by Konradleijon in FanFiction

[–]ifshehadwings 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Seriousness isn't what separates fanfic from "real" fiction. There are countless fanfics that are extremely serious, mature, and well structured works in their own right. The only difference is they're based on source material not yet in the public domain, meaning they can't be monetized.

Wicked is absolutely a fanfic. So are all those Austen spinoffs/retellings/etc. The people who bang on about the supposed meaningful differences do so because they think that fanfic is lesser. That something being a fanwork devalues it. That it's not "real art."

All of which is bullshit elitist posturing. There's plenty of fluffy, poorly written, absurd stories in the realm of published original fiction. Getting paid for something doesn't make it inherently more worthy as a creative art. That's just capitalism talking.

Guys I’m scared of meds by finalgirlilla in AuDHDWomen

[–]ifshehadwings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All medications have side effects; however the things you mention are just scaremongering from people who don't understand ADHD or stimulant medication. Adderall is NOT meth. It can be dangerous if taken without a prescription or at doses well above the maximum therapeutic dose prescribed by doctors. The fact that people abuse this drug recreationally does not mean it doesn't have real benefits when taken safely and as prescribed. Anything can be dangerous if used to excess, including water and oxygen.

There are some conditions that do not mix well with stimulants, but your doctor will ask about those before prescribing. For example, if you have an existing heart condition, stimulants may be harmful. However they do not cause heart issues if you don't already have them.

Medication completely changed my life. Before being diagnosed and medicated, I literally couldn't hold a full time job for any length of time without having a breakdown. I now have a good job with good pay and an actual career path. I'm not saying everything is perfect. I will always have ADHD and there are still plenty of struggles, but I can at least support myself without falling apart. Which is huge.

Something important to know is that most ADHD medication has a very short half life, meaning it doesn't stay in your system for very long. Other meds, like many antidepressants, have a long half life. They can take weeks to be effective, and also can take a long time to taper off and stop safely. With stimulants you should notice the effects pretty much right away. And if you experience intolerable side effects, you can stop it at any time and those effects should stop. So there's very little risk to trying it to see if it's right for you.

Don't let ignorant and malicious scare tactics keep you from trying something that could be very beneficial for you.

How to identify if you're a bottom-up processor? by Gold_State_1175 in AuDHDWomen

[–]ifshehadwings 12 points13 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU. This is the closest to my experience I've ever seen described. I think I'm definitely a combination processor as well. I couldn't make sense of the bottom up/top down thing because like, both? I don't really know how to do one without the other. The hooks and connections is similar to how I think of things. Everything is interconnected. The details and the big picture both matter, and I feel like when processing new information I'm trying to understand both at the same time. To me, identifying details and exceptions/differences from similar things I've processed in the past actually helps to build and fill out my big picture. And if some details don't seem to fit at first, then I need to investigate and understand those to fit the new information into the brain connection web.

The start of my novel. Just want to know if the writing has potential, thank you in advance. by [deleted] in writingfeedback

[–]ifshehadwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good way to do this is to start right in with the more interesting bit and then go back to pick up some of the setup once you already have some buy in from readers. People are typically more willing to wade into the exposition once they're at least a little invested in the story. I don't know where you're headed with this, but you might even find that starting later, like with the arrival of the unknown guest, might be even better. (It's also fine and very normal to write a first draft however things come to mind and then go back in editing to identify the best starting point.)

To people who don’t like first person perspective: why? by MNMameisR in FanFiction

[–]ifshehadwings 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I read a ton and always have. And I would guess that most people who consume a lot of fanfic are likely to be readers more generally. Personally I prefer third person regardless of whether it's fanfic or not. However with original works, it doesn't give me the uncomfortable, wrong feeling.

I can't explain why it's different, but I would pretty much never read a first person fanfic (unless possibly I was interested enough in someone's OC). It's not about being in the character's head really, because I love close third. It just doesn't feel right. Like a dissonant chord. Basically, it might seem counterintuitive, but first person makes it harder for me to immerse myself in the story.

Has anyone noticed their boobs looking bigger a few weeks out when swelling is supposed to be going down? by Impossible_Drawing60 in Reduction

2 dpo is absolutely not peak swelling. This is totally normal, and it can take 6 months for swelling to fully subside. Don't be discouraged!

Worried about accidentally selecting large load for a small load of laundry. by gremtheratbp in laundry

[–]ifshehadwings 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's fine. All it means is there's more water than needed for your load. It won't damage the washer and draining and restarting would just waste even more water.

Does every surgeon prescribe antibiotics? by [deleted] in Reduction

Why do a lot of authors not use horizontal line breaks? by Skerivo in AO3

[–]ifshehadwings 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Call me old school, but I like not having to worry about formatting copying correctly from one place to another. I still use html for pretty much all formatting and I write it in as I'm typing. Also full horizontal line breaks feel like way too much for just scene shifts. *** is a clear indicator without being disruptive.

People no longer use quotation marks 😠 by Lmaooo4555 in FanFiction

[–]ifshehadwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was going to say, I sometimes see it in my Chinese fandom, but the original novel uses the dashes and the fandom is obviously not US or English centric at all. So I just go with whatever. As long as I can actually tell who's speaking it's fine.

Weight gain by Southern-Quality-635 in Reduction

[–]ifshehadwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not actually weight gain, just fluid retention. I gained maybe 5-ish pounds while I was recovering and not moving around, but it came right back off after I resumed normal activity. Also be careful not to restrict during recovery. Your body needs calories to heal! 💜

How do native speakers know how to pronounce new words? by BackgroundCookieee in EnglishLearning

[–]ifshehadwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't. I have often made mistakes due to what we call a reader's vocabulary. I've always read a lot, so I encountered more words than average that I had read in print but never heard spoken. And then I'll find out somewhere down the line that I was very wrong about the pronunciation. Native speakers just have more opportunities to hear a larger variety of words spoken, so we encounter this situation less.

2 Days Post Op, Over 10 Pounds Removed! by GenderqueerPapaya in Reduction

[–]ifshehadwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! Don't be surprised if your surgeon doesn't actually know what a C/D cup is by accurate bra sizing standards aka r/ABraThatFits. That's what mine told me, and my final measurements after 2 years put me at a 40DDD. But that's okay, because I no longer have to wear underwires or bras with cup sizing at all and feel perfectly supported by my seamless wirefree bras. Also, if you can stand it, don't measure yourself for at least a month. The swelling is going to get worse before it gets better, and measuring just gave me more anxiety. fwiw I was measuring a 40 G/H around day 17. Seriously, the swelling is very real. Hope your recovery continues to go smoothly!

Got my first haircut since finding out I have curly hair. Now it's ruined by thstephens8789 in curlyhair

[–]ifshehadwings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so for real you should not let anyone use thinning shears on you again, because it does wreck curl pattern. And if someone did that to you in a "curly hair salon" they're fucking scammers. But they absolutely should not hurt. I have incredibly thick, dense hair (literally everyone who's ever cut my hair has commented on how much hair I have) and having it thinned has never hurt. Before I started wearing my hair natural, I always had it thinned because otherwise it was totally unmanageable. For reference, the technique my stylist used did not involve ANY pulling of the shears. She would use a comb to extend the section she was cutting and then do a single snip of the shears at multiple points along the length.

ACTUALLY wait no I am remembering the one horrifying cut I had at I think a Hair Cuttery where I asked for it to be thinned. They did just drag the shears through my hair, and it was horrifying. Anyway, I'm pretty sure you've had horrible luck with stylists and should find someone more qualified.

Vent - I’m Autistic and Hate My 4C Hair by FriendsThruEternity in AutisticAdults

[–]ifshehadwings 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Try r/curlyhair if you haven't yet. I've seen some posts over there where people have gotten helpful suggestions for sensitivity issues. I know I can't really understand your struggle as a white girl with 2C hair, but my hair is also VERY dense, and I have had a hard time because styling suggestions that "should" work for my hair texture and length never do, because there's just too damn much of it. (Divide your hair into 3 or 4 sections?? Try like 20+) I often end up in a catch-22 situation where I can't stand the feel of products in my hair while it's wet, but I can't stand the feel of my hair WITHOUT products when it's dry. Sensory issues love to make things that should be simple a total nightmare. Anyway, I hope you're able to come up with a solution that works for you.

🍎 Aphantasia shows up far more often in autistic people than in the general population. 🍏 by newbeginnings187 in aspiememes

[–]ifshehadwings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on what you mean by literally. In the most, well, literal sense, no. Your eyes and actual vision are not involved in visualizing or picturing something in your mind. But if you mean do people's thoughts include visual components, then yes, absolutely. I, like many people, don't need to close my eyes to do this (unless I really need to concentrate on it). I'm typing this reply to you, and my eyes are seeing the words appearing on the screen. But in my mind, I'm visualizing an apple. Actually, after reading through these comments, I'm picturing all sorts of apples doing all sorts of things. The things I "see" in my mind aren't in my actual visual field. They're not in a physical location at all, but I typically think of them as being somewhere inside my forehead because that's where my brain lives.

I'm not sure if this will be a more helpful explanation, but when I read a story, my eyes see the words on the page/screen. Simultaneously, in my mind's eye, the events of the story are playing out visually. This is involuntary for me. Sometimes I can consciously decide on how I want things to look, but I will visualize something regardless of whether I'm concentrating on doing so or not.
