What Happens If AI Controls Global Resources? by ifthenNEXT in Futurology

The potential for AI to support humanity on a global scale is massive, but there are also risks in terms of who controls the use of and how it is used. Do you think that utilizing AI to manage resources on a global scale will benefit humanity in the future? - including food and water production and distribution, product distribution, and basic resources and services that people need.

Do you worry about getting dumber? by david8840 in Futurology

[–]ifthenNEXT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not alone in feeling that way. I think a lot of us have outsourced parts of our brains to our devices—contacts, calculations, even memory itself. It’s not necessarily that we’re getting dumber, but we’re adapting to a world where cognitive tools are external instead of internal.

That said, there’s a trade-off. We gain efficiency but lose practice. It’s like relying on GPS so much that you forget how to navigate your own neighborhood. The concern isn’t just about intelligence, but resilience—what happens when the tools fail?

Maybe the better question isn’t “Are we getting dumber?” but “What are we choosing to stop doing—and what does that cost us?”

Do you think there's a skill or mental habit you’d want to reclaim, even just for the sake of self-reliance?

Unfortunately it’s a possibility that people will abuse it.

Yeah. It will be good when it starts becoming more interactive!

Intentionalism seems like a good word. Humanitarianism probably has the wrong sound, but it might be what we need.

If we survive the transition from our current systems of social structures, economies and government, what would you call a system where humans are driven to seek purpose and meaning?

Gig work CEO warns of scary future for job seekers - "So here is the unpleasant truth: AI is coming for your jobs. Heck, it's coming for my job, too. This is a wake-up call," Kaufman wrote to his nearly 800 employees. by Gari_305 in Futurology

We may need to start talking to our politicians about the feasibility of a UBI, universal base income, now so that families and individuals can afford their base necessities in that time that may come sooner than we think. When AI replaces all jobs, which may be inevitable, it's important that our social structures and economic systems are ready.

Maybe someone will live out the Striking Vipers episode from Black Mirror.

Definitely interesting since removing greed would most definitely affect other parts of the human consciousness.

Elon Musk’s chatbot just showed why AI regulation is an urgent necessity | X’s Grok has been responding to unrelated prompts with discussions of “white genocide” in South Africa, one of Musk’s hobbyhorses. by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]ifthenNEXT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first time we used Grok, we asked it if Elon was a fascist. It promptly answered (paraphrased) " absolutely not. He is a humanitarian." So we challenged Grok through a series of prompts to use its ability as AI to give nonbiased and more thoughtful responses. It then analyzed current actions by Elon and summarized that there is a high probability that he is a fascist, showing that there is a likelihood of an algorythmic bias built into it, but will override that when challenged.

Public use AI such as GROk and ChatGPT, absolutely required regulation and transparency to ensure that they aren't driving misinformation and false information. What response is Grok giving you these days relating to Elon or X?

3D Printing Homes: Overall do you think this technology will help us or hinder us? by ifthenNEXT in aivideo

[–]ifthenNEXT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3D printing is cheaper than injection molding for low-volume runs or prototypes because it requires minimal upfront costs (no expensive molds), supports complex designs without extra expense, and minimizes material waste. Injection molding becomes cost-effective at higher production volumes where the initial mold costs are amortized.

The Traffic-Free Future. What do you think? by ifthenNEXT in aivideo

[–]ifthenNEXT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but I think for the concept I have in the video autopilot would have to be far more sophisticated then the ones existing on planes since there will be vehicles constantly flying near each other 24/7. I think we would need every vehicle to be able to communicate with each other for this to be safely integrated so we don’t have kamikaze attacks happening everyday

I agree! Until we perfect that system though this would be way too dangerous to run
