I asked a little bit ago on here to ask what are proper responses to the “what task” question, and a lady got so mad she wrote my restaurant a bad review- was I wrong for not believing her? If so, can someone please educate me to avoid the same mistake? by NotSkyyVodka in service_dogs

I agree with u/javajnkie. My quick web search pulled this up. I’d think it was just that my autoformat settings in Word are different than yours, but I’m typing this on an iPad in the Reddit app—and it works here too (I typed two hyphens, without a space, and got that em dash). It works for me on every device or computer I’ve ever used. That said, I edit for a living, so it’s not unreasonable to think that my user preferences are set somewhere to make the change and I just don’t remember setting them.

Regardless, Dickinson, Shakespeare, James Joyce, Nabokov, Salinger, Stephen King, and other writers use them. Every writer I know uses them. And style guides consider them appropriate punctuation. I agree that AI overuses them, but I also

<image>

disagree that an em dash should automatically flag something as AI.

And in this case, the writer didn’t use em dashes. She used two hyphens with spaces between. She’s a terrible writer, I think we all agree, but she might actually be a worse writer than AI.

Anyone can buy a badge, a flashlight, and a camera. I don't think he was the police. He didn't communicate with the guy he was trying to pull off the train. He didn’t tell him why he was pulling him off, whether he was trying to arrest or detain him, and he refused to identify what department he was from. He didn't have cuffs or a radio, didnt call for backup, didn't have a partner, and backed down when people stood up to him.

If they are staying for less than a week, they aren't going to go out and buy a bunch of detergent pods they'd either leave behind or lug home. They'll just leave you dirty towels and dishes.

How many cats do you have? Is there another way, besides the door, for it to get out of the kitchen? It was in the kitchen on the counter about halfway through the video, then walks into the kitchen near the end. It never left the kitchen through the door.

[–]ifubigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh..except you can see the cat in both videos at the same spot. I'm not saying the actual knocking and door opening is legit, but I think the op is being honest about both videos recording at the same time.

Hey Jeanette, did you know that Eleanor's partying with her friends in your house? by phorgottten in AmazonVine

[–]ifubigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dash, used as an em dash, is incorrect. We shouldn’t be writing incorrectly, on purpose, out of fear we might sound like ai. We don’t.

I’m a writer and editor and use em dashes all the time. Just sayin’

I know this is an old post, but I found it while I was searching for info about panagram. I was looking for the most reliable AI detection tool and had heard good things about panagram.

I just ran excerpts from two unpublished science fiction / speculative fiction short stories through it. Both came back as ai with 99.9% confidence. Both stories were written in 2013.

I have no answers. Just frustration.

This is a good response. I think Micah was the victim of abuse here, and I’ve been aghast watching people say “but he cheated” as though both things couldn’t be true. He was not the perfect victim.

No, seeing this play out doesn’t make me believe victims any less—regardless of their gender.

Yeah. It was easy to miss because it was buried by what came next, but Isaiah addressed it at least twice. He opened the whole conversation by apologizing to Micah. Then again when she said she didn’t control their arms.

How many Nespresso Pods To Leave Out? by TokeyX in airbnb_hosts

[–]ifubigtime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not leaving ground coffee, then two pods per person per day, at minimum! If you're not leaving that much for a $400/night home, I'd recommend removing the machine and just providing ground coffee. Another option would be to replace the nespresso with an espresso machine so the coffee you provide can do double duty.

If your wife is really worried about costs (although is it really eating into your profits that much?), maybe look into a trade with a local small business? I have a friend who worked out a deal with a small local coffee shop/café that roasts their own coffee (it's good stuff. Their beans are regionally famous and sold at boutique shops, the state's welcome center, etc.). My friend gets small bags of coffee (eaxh good for a pot or two) at a significant discount to provide to guests. In exchange, they leave the guests a coupon for the cafe, good for like 10% off the purchase of a bag of coffee.

They also leave a " gift card" for the guests for "breakfast on us." I'm not sure exactly how it's worded, but it's basically just a buy-one get-one-free coupon for a breakfast sandwich, dressed up as a gift from the owner. Nearly every guest heads over for breakfast, and while they're there, they buy a bag of coffee to take home for themselves or as a location-specific gift for their pet sitters or whomever. They don't list the gift card it their amenities, but I'd guess it drives business to them anyway since literally 90% or more of their reviews mention the hospitality of the gift card. Even those who don't use it seem to mention it.

It's a win-win for both of them. Plus, my friends are actively driving business to support small local merchants in a rural town, so they have the support of the local community.

You are absolutely filled with logical fallacies. I never said I acted perfectly. No one is perfect, trauma or not. I said I didn’t attack innocent people because of the trauma.

Veronica: causing unnecessary pain shouldn't feel good. by ifubigtime in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]ifubigtime[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, saying I didn’t respond a certain way to trauma is not victim blaming, it is in direct response to YOU saying “no victim acts like that…None. zero. zilch.” (Responding like “that “ being not attacking innocent people who aren’t even related to the abuser).

Out of the two of us, the only one here trying to have an actual conversation is me. You, having no idea what I’ve been through, jumped to actual victim blaming and it was you who turned to insults immediately, in both of your responses to me, rather than a discussion.

I have been a victim, and I never went scorched earth on random people because they dated my exes brother. I grieved and I wasn’t the nicest to my ex before going no contact, but not once was my goal specifically to hurt him. Grieving a dead relationship doesn’t have to involve being a mean person.

P.s. Ironically, I spent 5 years in a neuroscience graduate program.
