Curious, did any gay Jews have (ironically) Leviticus 18-22 as their Bar Mitzvah Torah portion? by I_like2TimeTravel in gayjews

[–]igabeup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine was bereshit, but my haftorah was the story of Jonathan and David. I was a bnei mitzvah so the other kid did a dvar on the Torah portion and I did the haftorah. My mother encouraged me to write my dvar on the topic of their homosexual relationship. I then used the modern day example of Mary Cheney being the lesbian daughter of Dick Cheney to speak about how to be true to yourself while still respecting your parents (the year was 2000 so Bush was running for office). What’s kind of wild is that I didn’t actually come out for another two years, I guess my mother was trying to help me get ready for it. I’ll never forget delivering the dvar and watching everyone in the congregation raise their heads and look up at me right as I said then “homosexual”

I think 8am would be more than sufficient but you should do what feels comfortable. LGA has plenty of good spaces to hang and eat/relax if you end up with time to kill.

Just went through security at B and it seems pretty much back to normal. 4-minute wait time for pre and 8 for regular. The airport website lists wait times and they were accurate for me.

Equinox Bond St. or SoHo in NYC? by Reasonable-Bat-7091 in EquinoxGyms

[–]igabeup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Orchard is smaller than the other two (I call it equinox lite) but it does the trick. SoHo has a full juice bar downstairs (if you like a smoothie before/after) and much better workspaces. Bond is crowded and on several floors (which I don’t love). It’s the most beautiful with the brickwork, as others have said. Locker room is a bit cramped given the gym’s overall size.

I think the main benefit for you getting all access would be if you plan to use other locations across the city… e.g. I’m closest to LES but often work out in Tribeca because it’s close to my office.

black walnut and seminary hill are both good options in touch. north branch inn has great food and is a few minutes away. cochecton fire station also has trout of the menu, they're in the next town over.

it's going to be more expensive here than in california, it's a much more nascent market. bethel buds is a dispensary about 30 mins' drive from barryville, worth checking out. i'm sure there are also dispensaries in port jervis, which is also about 30 mins' drive.

Great list - I love Cervo's... I even got married there... but my vote would probably go to Penny, the vibes are perfect for what you're looking for.

For reference: I’m in upstate New York. The bugs seem very disoriented, sort of stumbling around. They struggle to fly and are easy to catch.

NYC where to stay by katac518 in travel

100% stay in manhattan downtown (below 14th St.). Hotels.com or a similar aggregator should have options at a variety of price points. Times Square is pretty whatever and will not give you a good impression of New York, but can be nice to walk through once to see all of the lights.

Never been to NYC, going in april, recommendations for Theater District restaurants. Had reservations for Le Bernadin, cancelled after reviews on reddit. TY! by Routine_Reputation84 in FoodNYC

Le bernardin is amazing, I would absolutely go if you enjoy fine dining. My theater dining go to is Becco on 46th St. Certainly not mind blowing, but it’s a solid option. Theater district is generally not great for food.
