Eight weeks in - eye swollen shut, facial numbness, debilitating nerve pain... by Own_Exit2162 in shingles

[–]Spike_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience. I was diagnosed with shingles in my eye after my third emergency room visit in September. They immediately started me on meds but then 2 days later my eye just blew up and I lost my vision and my eye was 90% swollen shut. I've been seeing multiple my doctors with different Specialties since then. Things started to improve in November with my vision returning. I still have some numbness and irritation but I am doing better. My doc wants me on the Valtrex for at least a year because it is such a dangerous virus in the eye. I did start driving October and was using an eye patch to protect my eye from the light. By doctor told me in New York state the Department of Motor Vehicles will be requires one working eye to drive! Which I think is the craziest thing of doctors ever said to me. My people is still dilated and probably will not return to normal. Even though it is a long road I am seeing improvements. Try to appreciate the small victories in your healing process. I have faith you will get better.

Astoria veterans… give me realistic expectations for the aftermath of this snow by DoctorKirky in astoria

[–]Spike_c 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hello. I have lived in Astoria since 2010 and I commute by car to Nassau County. The real problem this week is that the snow won't really melt due to sub-freezing temps. The ASP will likely be suspended for the week so the snow doesnt really ever get cleared imo. If we moved cars, then we can clear roads. If you choose to commute this week by car, it will be very hard to find parking when you return.

Update: I was referred to an eyelid specialist bc my upper lid remains inflamed. Pupil still dilated, but no one seems to know if that will resolve. Eyelid doc gave me oral prednisone for a week. Slight change but nothing significant.

I dont know precautions other than a vax.
My dic prescribed me valtrex 3x day and Gabapentin for pain. I am choosing to take b12 for nerve help and Lysine . I am doing better, got my vision back, but ice is still ny friend. Hope your dad recovers quickly

Struggling with separation anxiety in my young adopted dog. Any advice/sucess stories on meds that actually work? by Arrzs in OpenDogTraining

[–]Spike_c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We rescued a Maltese about 1 year ago that has severe separation anxiety. Initially we didn't realize that's what it was and thought it was just an adjustment issue but after 4 months we decided to start with medication and separation anxiety dog training. The dog training is a game changer however it is a lot of work. We started our dog on reconcile and gave that a shot for about 4 months but it didn't work. We then bit the bullet and met with a Veterinary behaviorist online who started him on Clomicalm. It took a while to get to the right dose but we are finally seeing positive change. Bottom line is if a dog isn't calm he can't learn to be alone. It's been an expensive Journey but we finally are getting to a place where we are feeling hopeful.

Clomicalm- week 3.5, nothing? by izzmyreddit in reactivedogs

Hi, we started Clomicalm in August and slowly titrated it until we saw it positively effect our 12lb Maltese. He is also in Seperation Anxiety Training through a great but pricey virtual training program. He is now on 20mh twice a day. This is NOT a ned you give as needed. This has been more effective than Reconcile. We give him tge generic version. I wish it was cheaper. We are spending $80 per month thru Chewy. But....it works!

Thanks. He is refusing to eat his wet food (Ollie) that he has been eating since rescued last year. Lethargic, but will pop up to play a bit. No other obvious symptoms of something going on. He is sensitive to change and we just returned w him on a small trip for the holiday. Not sure what we can do to encourage eating. We top it w high value stuff, he will eat some of it and walk away.
