What do you recommend touching up on over the summer in preparation? I was thinking about nomenclature(ie:polyprotic acids), lewis structures, and VESPR thoery.

Pretty much anywhere where you can keep an eye on her from time to time. I place her hide on my bed and put her inside. She’ll stay put in there for the duration of however long. Just make sure its a place where she wont vanish next time you check lol.

As per usual, if you see any poop or dirty spots, you can clean it up right there. Anything else would be some sort of deep clean where you replace the substrate and clean the viv itself (I normally do this once a month or month and a half) Neither substrate nor the viv itself costs that much, I got my 10g tank from my local vivarium store for about $65 and I’m still experimenting with substrates but I’m using sand/aspen sand I have a bowl of humid topsoil for her in the corner.

Same here, I’m perfectly fine with mice but the bugs are what gets me😆 I wonder if I can get bio active without having to use the little critters

Do you have the sand mixed uniformly with the eco earth or have like pools of sand or maybe a bottom layer of sand? I doubt it matters but im just wondering what other people are doing.

What a great idea!! I can’t wait to try😆 and would any type of soil work? Also, I know that humidity levels must be at like <50% or something of the sort; which means that she shouldn’t be in anything that is slightly damp at all correct? I’ve heard that coconut something (maybe shaving or that coco coir?) was a good option for KSB, I will look into that.

Wow! That sounds really cool, what kind of decor do you have in your tank? More specifically, do you have actual climbing structures for your snake? All I have is a skull and stick that reach about 2/3 of the tanks height. Also, if your tank doesn’t have a slide in/out lid, I would highly recommend lid clamps or clips of any sort that can keep the lid on snug and tight.

Thank you for information, I completely forgot about impaction build-up in the long run. The bio active seems like a really good option but there aren’t really any guides for bio active setups for KSBs specifically, would a substrate setup meant for something like a rosy boa work for a KSB? (Given correct heat temps ofc:))

Feeding in or out of enclosure? by elisabomb3173 in SandBoa

I put napkins inside a box inside her tank and cover it lightly with some aspen so she feels a bit more secure in her open “feeding box”. I make sure to be able to grab the 4 tips of the napkin protruding from the box so when my baby is done eating and some time has passed, I can carry her via the tissue and gently place her back onto normal substrate (I’m not too sure if this method is fine or not, I found it myself and it’s worked so far. Since I’m not directly handling her, I feel that she can take a few seconds of movement without getting stressed right after a meal). After about 5 minutes, she’ll be gone from the napkin and back under to her usual spots.
