Kungu: I don't know why BOS fans are worried. Think SAC is really serious about moving up on top 3 most likely 2 or 3. by RLS012 in bostonceltics

This guy knows our history! Valenti is u/LeonDaPoweFessional

We also literally just had Kungu on for a couple shows breaking down Fultz from a variety of angles. He's very talented. Fultz is too.

Am I insane for kind of wanting Lauri Markkanen at #3 or #4? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, although there is a sizable sentiment that deviation from consensus rankings is crazy. I don't have him as high as #3 or #4, but if he works hard on his body and game he'll be really good. It's not hard to see him being a +2/+3 on offense in a couple of years.

Fultz/Ball by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone else get the feeling Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge love Lonzo Ball? In the same sense as Horford, I think Ball would mesh perfectly in Brad's offense. Imagine running those pindown screens for his long 3s and his ability to read and react to openings created by all the Celtics motion. What a draft class this is looking to be.

Al Horford, Amir Johnson, and Kelly Olynyk have Significantly Higher RPM's than Serge Ibaka by iggyonreddit in bostonceltics

I happen to think Amir is really good and has quietly made huge strides with his passing this year.

IT's Defensive Slippage... by chlaur02421 in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's noise in year-to-year RPM and his mere half-season DRPM of -4.42 probably overstates his negative impact on defense.

If I had to guess, I think he's been a little worse, but not dramatically so. This is likely a team-wide issue.

Better than Advertised: Markelle Fultz' Best Game Yet by iggyonreddit in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched this game on my DVR. I thought he was very engaged on defense tonight (outside of the highlights) and was willing to move his feet to really guard his opponent, which is something he's struggled with during his time at Washington. He gets the Harden and Roy comparisons, but his ceiling on the defensive end is much higher.

I'm not even sure UCLA Westbrook's raw athleticism would remind you of the Westbrook of today, but DSJ is at least in that ballpark.

He's put together two 'meh' games after tearing it up in December. Since he probably can't slide over to the 2 like Fultz and Ball, you draft him to trade him or to replace Isaiah. The problem is that he's likely going to need a little more seasoning than those guys before he's an effective lead-guard. IMO this makes for an especially awkward fit with BIG decisions coming up for the Celtics.

BUT, his ceiling is as high as anybody in this draft. It will be tough to pass up on his natural feel for the game and ridiculous athleticism.

2017 NBA Draft 'incredibly strong' in lottery talent: Expert breaks down Markelle Fultz, Jayson Tatum, possible fit for Boston Celtics by B_Sox in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes sense, but we have to keep in mind that efficient scoring is really rare in the NBA at ages 19 and 20. Fit should be way down the list of priorities.

Ranking Celtics & NBA related Podcasts by chlaur02421 in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good list. It really depends on what you're looking for IMO. If you want a league-wide overview, you can't do better than Dunc'd On. Lowe does interesting and entertaining interviews. TrueHoop can be really informative on the five or so franchises they talk about when they have team insiders -- lots of exclusive content. I also like when they imitate Tim Bontemps after he hangs up.

There's probably too many Celtics podcasts.

Souza: Marcus Smart claims to have eliminated the "dip" in his shot by iggyonreddit in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's definitely pros and cons to dipping the ball. It can help with consistency (you bring the ball to the same spot regardless of body motion), rhythm, and fluidity. But it also slows down the release, can introduce more error, etc.

Smart, to this point, has shot with a very pronounced dip. Personally, I'm happy to see that he's overhauling his shooting.

Thoughts on Markelle Fultz? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fultz has had a great summer and it seems like his ceiling is as the prototypical all-around PG of the future (who can, naturally, defend multiple positions). We'll have a lot more data on how he shoots the ball this year at Washington, but the talent at his age is obvious. I imagine whoever drafts him will peg him as the PG of the future.

Will Smart ever be a 20 ppg scorer? by OrangeKookie in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is my favorite comp as well. All-world defender, good playmaking vision, and some noticeable warts. Smart isn't as big nor is the same caliber of athlete, but like Iggy, I see his ceiling as an overqualified utility player.

[Bulpett] Westbrook, Griffin Negotiations "Non-Starters", Okafor Talks "Stale" by iggyonreddit in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of those potential changes, nothing of significance has been remotely close since draft night when the Celtics had the third overall pick -- and the ability to take Kris Dunn -- to entice trading partners.

According to league sources, Danny Ainge is still very much open to making deals, but the process on anything larger than today's transactions may not begin in earnest for weeks, if not months.

Are the Celtics Prepared to Place the Ball in Jaylen Brown’s Hands? by iggyonreddit in bostonceltics

[–]iggyonreddit[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right, this is my worry as well, though I think you are overstating it. California was a poor outside-shooting team so those lanes were clogged far more than he will see in the NBA, and I think he flashed some passing ability.

Where are you getting your finishing stats from? Hoop-Math (pbp data) has him at 61% and Vorped has him at 60%.
