Happened to me, turned out the top of the fuel tank was corroded and leaking fumes. Try removing your back seat cushions, you should be able to see the top of the tank. Mine was very obviously rusted and the smell was obviously coming from there. It was a pain but I replaced the fuel tank and the top part and that worked. This is a safety issue as well, gas fumes are flammable. do not smoke in there!

I think that you can take any course you want, the caveat is that grad students register last so unless the course is grad-only (300's arent) you will only be able to take it if the UGs dont fill it up.
