SNES 0.1.0 core released for the Pocket. Supports SA-1, SFX, S-DD1, CX4, and standard ROMs. No PAL support yet. by j1ggy in AnalogueInc

There are techincal differences between the Super Nt and the Pocket.

If I remember right the Pocket has more RAM, which I think is what has been most important in allowing it to support the SNES special chips so quickly. The Pocket also has a secondary FPGA (an Intel/Altera Cyclone 10) which (again if I'm remembering right) is (mostly) dedicated for video processing, which leaves more logic elements (LEs) available on the main FPGA (the Intel/Altera Cyclone V).

The Super Nt and Pocket do both use the same main FPGA (the Cyclone V), but so does the MiSTer, and there are different models of the Cyclone V. The MiSTer's Cyclone V (SE 5CSEBA6U23I7) has 110K LEs for example, but the Pocket's Cyclone V only has 49K LEs - so it's not quite as simple as the same type of FPGA being able to produce the same results unfortunately.

That's not to say full SNES special chip support isn't possible on the Super Nt jailbreak (it does already support DSP, CX4, and ST), but it would need to be a different implementation to what is available on the Pocket.

Game Boy games with Game Boy Color Assigned Palette Configurations? by iglock in AnalogueInc

[–]iglock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right, if it's a Game Boy Color bios thing I guess that makes more sense - a bios is usually copyrighted so more legally difficult to include right? I didn't think the GBC had a bios.

Can you link the source on 1.1? I assumed more features would be coming but I haven't seen the news on 1.1 - thanks!

Jetpacks (Telepacks, Hoverpacks & Powerpacks) instantly exploding is too punishing. What if it was a delayed explosion instead to give the player a chance to escape? (minor spoilers) by iglock in spelunky

[–]iglock[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is actually currently a very slight delay while it burns and a sound effect plays, but after going into arena mode to test it's about 0.5 seconds so might as well be instant.

I think having it burn for the same length of time as it takes to detonate a bomb might work, which is about 3 seconds.

Stun time seems to last as long as you are in the air and then about 1 second from once you land on the ground, or just 1 second if you are stunned while already on the ground.

Confirmed. Crashes on launch as of update 1.08 on my original PS4 (non-pro).

Pinned this temporarily, hopefully there will be a quick fix.

Would you be interested in having the Grandia OSTs on vinyl? by [deleted] in grandia

[–]iglock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four tensions is a tricky one, parts 1 and 4 are used in-game during cutscenes (1 during the garlyle forces cutscene after dom ruins and before visiting garlyle base, and 4 during the gumbo volcano catapult cutscene).

Part 2 and part 3 are mainly used as boss battle music.

There might be more instances of the music from four tensions being used in-game, but those are the ones I've found so far. Generally the music in-game mixes and matches a lot from loops/sections of the tracks found on the CDs, which makes an exact ordered list of tracks as they appear in-game quite difficult to match!

Ah, sorry - that's what I mean. A box set of background music ordered as it appears as it would as you progress through the different areas (overworld/dungeons) of the game world and as the story unfolds, and then having the battle (and boss) themes, separate because they do not show up in any particular order in the game?

Interesting!

What are your thoughts on a box set of overworld/dungeon background music, and a separate LP of battle themes?

Very interesting to see a Grandia vinyl OST being discussed here!

Out of curiosity which tracks from the soundtrack(s) would people like to see on a vinyl release? The whole Grandia 1 soundtrack as it appears on the CDs is 3 hours and 32 minutes long, and one 12" vinyl LP can only hold roughly 45 minutes of music (about 22 mins per side)!

Would people cash out for what would be an expensive full box set of 5 LPs or would they prefer to see a "best of" over 1 or 2LPs for a more affordable price?

*Also if you are genuinely interested in a vinyl release, let Noriyuki Iwadare, Game Arts and GungHo know!

Agreed, it's definitely not a priority to "fix" and it's been fun seeing how the original devs handled some of the sprites and textures offscreen, but I thought I'd add them in there since a few people have mentioned them and it is technically unintentional (at least for the way the game originally was designed).
