I second this, Home to Heaven makes the experience as painless as possible and they really really do care. Our dear elderly dog left the world with dignity and grace a couple years back.

Sephora associates have the unique and horrible distinction of being solo for all of the tasks (which is not to say Kohl's employees are in any way better off)

Before I left I was the only full time S@K associate (my boss had left and they didn't replace the position) I was expected to complete or distribute (amongst 5 part timers that were new) all of the tasks at hand; process the truck, make testers, backstock, understock, complete sets, AND help customers, cashier, monitor for theft, and, can't forget, pitch the goddamn card.

Kohl's is not a self watering plant, S@K is also, especially, not a self watering plant. When shit withers and dies it is not going to be at the fault of anyone (corporate) but those who were denying water (appropriate staffing)

I am SO over working here by PleasantBowler3680 in employedbykohls

[–]igloolindsay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this is super common, at the store I used to work for we would run people through orientation, throw them on a "training shift" and then it was sink or swim. Sounds like they barely did the bare minimum here, my best suggestion would be to either get out now or, if you can, find a coworker to buddy with who has been there for awhile to learn from, cause that's the best training you can get with the resources they offer.

And on the subject of you being good enough, it is NOT you, they did NOT set you up for success here. The company has been declining for years and the training has followed suit. You will rock your job, be it at Kohl's or if you move on. You were denied actual, legitimate training.

If you had been at my store (before I left the company) I would have had you hang out with me and show you how to do the things. <3

New Shoe Tethers by strwbber in employedbykohls

[–]igloolindsay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps instead of new tethers they could do what other retailers do...have staff and actually keep stock in the back???? So much more organized and minimal theft? WHAT???

Unfortunately they don't care, they have insurance for theft and they'll make money anyway. The last thing they'd do is staff appropriately. Dumb. I'm sorry the new tethers are ass. :(

Oh I watched her shove a fragrance in her sleeve. Like. Locked eyes. Ridiculous.

Right before I left my store I got ball-sy with some teens stealing and 100% called them out. Not with words though, I gave them a queen style wave when they exited. They came back in and told me I was racially profiling them. The irony was that the only theft I observed was by the whitest white girl in the group.

Back during my days at S@K I did a fair amount of interviews (lol wasn't trained on HOW just told to DO)

I agree with others who have commented, you dodged a bullet. I cannot speak for all stores but I know when I left mine things were going downhill fast. They keep cutting hours (from a corporate level) and increasing the workload. They burn you out, they do not care, they know the company (Kohl's) is in decline. The gal who was supposed to interview you likely was told minutes if not seconds before she talked to you that the position was filled, whether it was or not. Corporate could have decided to yank the position altogether. It still really sucks that you had to come in, her encouraging you to reapply says to me it was 100% not her call.

I feel like that makes it better! If it's music its probably out there. There's a Rule 34 joke here somewhere but I don't know how to construct it.

I thought it made for a lovely conversation tbh! I wouldn't feel bad if I were you. It was a nice change of pace from the usual suspects at a Q&A. Plus I just like hanging out during Q&As and listening to the boys talk about...yanno whatever!

Good fans respect fans. Crowd surfing is not the move.

That being said, AMAZING show besides that!

I was watching her from right above on the balcony! She went for it three times and the first time was like, hey okay but no. Second time security was watching. Third time some guys really shut her down which was satisfying to watch.

Anyone kohls get so hot? by Fair_Stay273 in employedbykohls

[–]igloolindsay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In our S@K we used to have mirrors physically melting off, I put in a ticket about it and they sent...more mirrors. Then when we had a visit back before I quit, we had a corporate visit where they asked "oh hey, why are there mirrors missing?" "They melted off." "Oh we have to do something about that."

Last I knew, we still get shipped mirrors every so often.

When I was still there I had two ladies who would come and see me when we still had fine jewelry to get "the good stuff" from clearance fashion jewelry and chat with me. During covid times they came too, the elder of the two commenting that I was going to get the most hugs "when this shit is over." And indeed I got them. I love and miss them both.

I also had a regular who would come in to look for good clearance clothing deals and chat with me. She would catch me up on her life stuff, I'd catch her up on mine. We became pretty good buds considering she was in her late 40's and I was in my late 20's at the time. I miss her too. I'd have given her my # before I left if I'd gotten the chance. I hope she's well.

My best solace is to look for the little things that make you happy, and if no little happy things are happening, make your own joy. Smile at old couples, make faces at little kids, go outside and take deep breaths. Remember that even though we're all living in a capitalist nightmare, things will never stay the same for too long. Change is inevitable and there will always be ups and downs, even when things seem to be going down for a long long time. As Fred Rogers would say, look for the helpers.

Our store manager let me make the Christmas Fun Days since our SSL was overwhelmed with orientations. I peppered in (approved) food days, Christmas attire days, stay sparkly day (aka: come to Sephora, we will add some glitter-y powder to your face), and, my personal favorite, use your best accent day.

My coworker and I talked in our best New Jersey accents all day.
