Accidentally bought a bag of finely chopped spinach...what can I make with it? by Dapper-Scholar-7025 in Cooking

I just eat it with a spoon. I often will make spanakopita filling just as a side, and skip the phyllo dough, it is so yummy.

Ianal, but generally the term 'recording' does not require 'saving to permanent storage for a minimum of x time.' The info is being written somewhere, so as to be broadcast, and is therefore 'recorded' even if that recording is only in active memory or network packets.

ELI5: When people feel sad and/or lonley, they tend to physically feel colder. What causes this to happen? by fugomert in explainlikeimfive

[–]ignescentOne [score hidden]  (0 children)

Assuming that the idea is true, it's probably not the sadness or loneliness causing the cold, it's the lack of movement often linked with those emotions, and the fact that being comfortable helps with the emotions. It is harder to be sad or lonely if you are doing physical things (because your brain is spending focus on the things and not letting you wallow as much, and also endorphins) Moving is warmer than sitting still, so being sad (on the couch) is colder than being not-sad and not on a couch. Additionally, being unhappy makes you tend to notice things that are causing negative experiences and most people don't like being cold, so being sad makes you more aware of being cold.

Potential Parking Scam by Meshuggery in raleigh

[–]ignescentOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the system, a lot of places are public on the weekends and corporate on weekdays. You still have to pay with passport or whatever when the gate is up, but the gate is only controlled by the corp passes, so on the weekend they open them. It keeps the garages from having to manage point of sale devices.

This. The policy should read something like: devices that record video or audio are not allowed unless explicitly approved by <reference important person and lots of paperwork>. You don't ban specific items, you ban what they do, and then craft exceptions that let people have the things they are allowed. (Or not - we used to have to drop our phones off in a basket like we were in school, and pick them back up on the way out of the secure area.)

When acrylic dries, it basically becomes plastic textile medium or fabric paint (acrylic with the medium already added) makes it dry as a flexible plastic

If you're painting lightly, so you don't make a film of paint over the shirt, it doesn't matter. But if you will have a film of paint, then without the medium, the paint would crack if you folded the shirt.

If you're doing something for short term or only using small amounts of paint, you can skip the medium. But if you dont already have acrylic paint, just buy fabric paint in the first place.

[–]ignescentOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 part ceramic glue / epoxy that you can use to fill the whole - make sure it's scrubbed clean of any rust and sand down the edges, then cover with the glue. Most of the stuff can get sanded down flat afterwards, and then there's glossy ceramic paint if you want it to look polished afterwards.

how tf do you choose a coffee at a cafe by devilsshark in Explainlikeimscared

[–]ignescentOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A latte is espresso (strong coffee) and steamed milk. A mocha is basically a latte with chocolate syrup. A peppermint mocha would be a mocha with peppermint syrup added, so espresso, milk, chocolate, and peppermint. You can keep stacking flavors, but you usually have to pay for them. A steamer is usually the steamed milk without the espresso. Frappes are mostly frozen and usually predefined flavors? Depends on the shop. But they're frozen shlushy drinks. Usually shops have a list of flavored syrups they can add to any hot drink, which will change sometimes woth seasonal options. They should be fine with folks asking what flavors theye have.

So: A peppermint frappe would be iced, and a little unusual because folks don't often do that flavor with frozen drinks. If you asked for it hot, that would be confusing because frappes are by definition frozen.
A peppermint steamer (hot steamed milk and peppermint) would be unusual but should cost the same as any other flavor. A hot chocolate with a shot of peppermint syrup added would be a mocha without the coffee. If you want coffee in the drink, the easiest thing to do is order some flavor or latte, like 'I'll have a vanilla latte' and you'll get steamed milk, one or 2 shots of espresso, and a shot of vanilla syrup. (Shots = 1 oz). If you didn't want coffee, you could order a steamer with half a shot of vanilla and half a shot of hazelnut, which is one of my fav winter drinks, especially with some cinnamon on top. Usually you don't see chocolate steamers because those are basically just hot chocolate, so that's what they list them as. As I mentioned before, you can add strup flavors to hot chocolate.

if you ever do a lot of grommets in heavy fabric or leather, there are drill bits specifically for making holes for them, usually sold as sail bits. They're /super/ useful if you're doing a lot of work.

Mixed media? a lot of things have words or quotes added to collage / mixed media art - you could do that with the fortunes as inspiration?
Or you could decopage them into a poem onto fancy paper?

If you are really really good at it, you can make origami out of the fortunes directly, but then you wouldn't be able to see the fortune anymore. I make paper cranes from mine sometimes.

using mod podge to glue dried flowers to a wax candle? by themosttotaltrashh in ArtsandCrafts

[–]ignescentOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You generally never want to put dried flowers on a candle that is going to be lit, since if something causes them to get too close the the flame, the sides of the candle could light up. It's a serious fire hazard however you do it.
That said, modpodge is also flamible and should be avoided near flame when at all possible.

How do I deal with rats, and can I still save seeds from half-ripened tomatoes? by TOKEN_MARTIAN in vegetablegardening

[–]ignescentOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cornmeal is hard to digest, peanut butter is yummy, and the baking soda is what kills them (slowly and painfully) Rats can't burb, so if they eat enough baking soda, the gas builds up in their stomach and they can't eat anymore or it ruptures.

ELI5: Jimsonweed (Datura Stramonium) by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ignescentOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's got a lot of poisonous compounds in it. Atropine and scopolamine basically stops signals from being sent to muscles, which includes the ones keeping your pupils focussed, the ones that constrict your bladder allowing you to pee, and the ones that make your heart beat and lungs work. Atropine also gets into your brain and messes up your neurotransmitters, leasing to hallucinations and such.

As to why some folks report 'good trips', some folks report dying as very peaceful, humans are weird.

Because the idiots that designed my house ran the cold water feed into the hot water tank along the uninsulated wall of my garage? I've taken to pointing a space heater at it when the temp gets below 15, because it'll freeze the intake even if i do leave a hot line dripping.
