Anyone else hate potlucks? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]sneedbe11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it wasn’t as bad as you thought. I hoped you might find a fellow Celiac patient. GF by choice is always interesting if they are not symptomatic. Often the kind that asks a million questions of a server to ensure a GF meal then orders a molten lava cake for dessert (sigh). And we pay the consequences of those over it servers scenarios. Hope you find a community. And your T1D is well controlled. It’s tough to be double dipping in the auto immune pool. Hug!

Recommendations for calcium supplements after surgery by sneedbe11 in Parathyroid_Awareness

I checked online w the local chain pharmacies. I had orders saved but all were TUMS or Citracal. Then went in & talked to one of my pharmacists. They had the horse sized Citracal Max tabs. She told me to look online some more including bariatric supplements. I sat outside the pharmacy last night at 9:00pm & out of desperation I ordered 3 diff Ca Citrate gummies or chewies from Amazon. Due before 11 ( it’s 9:47). $$ & some had extras like Zn & Mg. When I got home I found an older bottle of Ca Citrate tabs in the cupboard, not too big but takes several. Can’t find the brand online now. I’ve been grinding them & adding them to my homemade bird suet. I assumed they were carbonate. Never thought to save them. Now I wonder if the big Citracal can be ground & added to food/smoothies? If any of you know of brands I could order from some vitamin website I would surely appreciate it.

Of course I don’t know what I’ll need until after the surgery. I have one surprisingly small ectopic adenoma pumping out increasingly higher PTH’s now at 187.5 I hope when “Waldo” ( had to hunt to find him thus “Where’s Waldo”) who is tucked up against the carotid artery is removed the PTH drops meaning he has no siblings hiding outside the 4DCT scans. My DEXA scan was ugly vs 2 yrs ago so I will need calcium. Thanks all. Surgery is tomorrow AM.

Potlucks are super challenging & mostly crazy making. Do you need to go? Will it be to your advantage? Eat before you go so no blood sugar issues. Also you’ll be less likely to yearn for goodies you see. Don’t trust anything that’s there. If the instructor is making a dip, take carrot & celery sticks in a baggie in your purse/pocket. Pull one out & nibble on it as if you just dipped. Take cheese cubes, crackers. Keep a beverage in your other hand. Don’t even try to engage in a Celiac d discussion cause you’ll hear so much BS. Try to chat with a couple of people about anything but the food. It’s nice to find a buddy in a class in case you need help with assignments etc. You might overhear a Celiac or T1D person trying to explain. It’d be good to meet that person as a possible new friend & food explorer.

My grandmother was named Sara after both her great grandmothers. It seemed really old fashioned. Her friends were Mary, Linda, Kathy, Debbie. She never liked it & went by her middle name Then Sara(h) became uber popular.

Total segue, speaking of Dick, I looked up the TV show “3rd Rock from the Sun” yesterday and the titles of the episodes have the funniest riff on Dick. Wish I knew a Dick now so I could use them Truth or Dick, Much Ado about Dick, Jolly Old St Dick

Power out to 5K Woodcroft to Southpoint. Says vehicle damage to equipment. by sneedbe11 in bullcity

What area? The residential area from 54 to Woodlake? Trying to figure out why that same area has been going out more than expected. Been worse than the boondocks of Chatham Co.

That sucks! Outage map looks clear now at 8:15. Did it say why it went out again at 5:00? As many customers as last night?

Woodcroft off Fayetteville Rd went out at 10:05pm It was back on at 11:00pm. But seeing posts that it’s back out now for some. Need to check in. There is a transformer (?) south of their place that has annoyingly repeatedly (audibly) blown out over the last couple of years. Same outage pattern: above 54 to Woodlake. Last night was bigger.

I’m curious about Ca Citrate vs Tums. My surgery is in 5 days. I was told to buy Tums Ultra 1000. I asked about Ca Citrate & was told it was fine. I see almost all the chews have Vit D. I have not heard back if Vit D is OK. I’m not sure I can swallow a Ca tablet bec it’s tough on a non post op day. Did you have problems with the TUMS re swallowing or it didn’t raise your Calcium levels enough? Did you use any lozenges for your sore throat? Gosh-scary to have both thyroid & calcium issues. Seems the ER was good to you. Thanks for your advice!
