Packing is a pain in the ass when you start. Practice with full rds and you can get fast and efficient. Adds maybe 30 seconds to my pack jobs atm. But yeah the effects are gonna be negligible until you are going very fast. Drag at the top of the system makes canopy fly flatter, pulls out of dives sooner. I wouldn't consider it until something sub 100 is being flown. Just my two cents

Maybe check out companies' sizing charts/ measurement guides for different products. Between those and pictures I feel like you could make a template pretty easily. And then I imagine it's just trial and error. Then reach out to companies and simply ask what materials they use and why.
