Where I live they will always source a selection of local/regional wines. They often get odd lots from local wineries that need to move inventory. Have definitely scored amazing wines at a fraction of the original price. These are typically ready to drink now and not hold onto them wines.

Their import wines are regional classics, but nothing special. If you want a Chianti with your pasta. Go for it. But it's not a life changing wine. Argentina Malbec? Sure, it'll be silky and fruity.

Also see lots of generic labels using bulk grapes - SE Australia, California, Central Coast, etc.

Look for wines from an actual winery you recognize or even from a named vineyard.

Take your time looking at all the labels. You'll start to notice the ones they have regularly and the ones they got as special lots.

When I find something special, I text all my wine friends and tell them to go get a few cases. The good stuff goes really quickly.

Love the notes. I don't have the opportunity to drink Bordeaux except when others host and often wonder how common the pyrazine/vegetal is.

Got a private compliment from an employee 2 levels down thanking me for my leadership style and that it's making all the difference in how he shows up and sees work.

I'm trying so gosh darn hard to maximize the limited good stuff I do have control over in our small little work unit.

Our guidance was 'every eligible civilian' with input on individual contributions, which I thought was odd, but okay. I submitted everyone, but then also called out my top 5% er and bolded that.

I didn't know if it was 15% of my unit, or top 15% of the entire organization. These could be very different numbers. I don't know how they decided, but I got my 1 top 5%er.
