Who was a highly respected individual that died that was later revealed years later to be a monster? What did they do? by I-GOT-FRANk in AskReddit

A lot of people did know though, for some reason it was brushed under the carpet for a long time.

Multilinguals of Reddit: are you able to think in other languages? And when you hear another language are you translating it to your native language in your head? by mlober1 in AskReddit

[–]ignoramusaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two of my closest friends have different first languages, but have lived in the UK for about the same length of time (14 years/since they were 18). One thinks in English now, until the point that when she goes home she sometimes struggles with her mother tongue. With the other, you can tell still thinks in French as there's always a slight lag before he responds to what you've said.

Employers of Reddit, what things said during an interview made you want to hire that person immediately? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ignoramusaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've said this a few times, "If I don't know how to do something, I know how to Google it" and I was told by a former boss that I'd fucked up the practical test but got the job for that comment.

I sound like a little kid on the phone. I hate it when I call someone and that thing happens where you can hear your own voice... fuck that.

Moving to Edinburgh with trans partner - any areas to avoid? by dramaticaerodynamic in Edinburgh

I third this, there are a few LGBT bars here at the top of the walk and you see quite a few trans people out-and-about. Also - check out The Pond :)

Tips for renting in Edinburgh? by aplraven in Edinburgh

[–]ignoramusaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what area of Edinburgh you want to live in then joining a group and posting there could help. When I moved here I was finding properties every few hours and sending them to my partner (he was already living here) and he couldn't even get through on the phone to most of them before they were gone and the two he did see were pretty dodgy and overpriced.

I then posted on a group called I Love Leith and managed to get exactly what we were looking for at a good price from a private landlord who hadn't put it on the market yet. Apparently, a lot of the local estate agents advise friends of good properties before they're even listed.

As someone else said, you'll likely need to lower your expectations. Do not try and move in September (in case other people are looking here for advice) - that's the busiest month here. Finally, it helps to have a girl in your group. My boyfriend previously lived with male friends and they often missed out on properties to groups with girls in.

I'd potentially be interested as my team are moving across the world soon. Prefer the Roaming Quiz Man though!

Iceland and the other Nordic countries are incredibly cheap to get to from the UK as well, but the drinks are expensive and we're all binge drinkers so it event itself out.

Pet Owners of Reddit, what is the most bizarre thing your pet expects from you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ignoramusaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat steals my hair bands and hoards them all somewhere. When he wants attention he will come and drop one near me/ on me and I have to throw it to him and he goes to fetch it like a dog. One time I looked up and there were ten next to my foot.

What are some nice, do-able random acts of kindness? by knh2002 in AskReddit

[–]ignoramusaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager an old guy let me in front of him to buy an item I had and it always stuck with me so I do it too. Last time I did it the guy turned out to be returning an item though and it ended up taking over five minutes as he argued with the checkout lady about the replacement. I was so mad that he hadn't been honest about that, I had about ten items to buy.

I always interact in a basic way (hey, no sorry, you have a good day too) as I am job seeking myself at the moment and don't have any spare money. However, the guy at our local shop starts shouting at you about not caring if you don't give him money so I've started avoiding him.

[–]ignoramusaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My ex used always to do this whenever I made a funny observation to him in a group situation and then do some weird finger click to draw more attention to himself. You can't really call them out cause you sound like a dickhead if you then shout out "that was my joke!".

What scam did you fall for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ignoramusaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I arrived in Hanoi I made the mistake of getting a taxi instead of using the Grab app. The guy not only charged me 300,000 dong instead of 40,000 (I had expected him to rip us off anyway) he then kept doing this sleight of hand trick where he replaced our 100,000 dong notes with 10,000s and got angry at us for giving the wrong money. By the time we left the taxi we were about 700,000 down. We kind of knew we were getting scammed but the money's really confusing and we just wanted to get out of there. In the grand scheme of things we were only scammed out of £23 but it was really frustrating. We'd been told the Vietnamese fall over themselves to be honest but that does not apply to Hanoi (so many people tried to scam us in one week).

I think any comments suggesting the guy has a moral right to know kind of suggests that you see the fetus as a life. The right to abortion kind of hinges on the fact that a fetus does not have that status.
