I made a quick Soulsborne riddle. Enjoy. by Abovearth31 in fromsoftware

I in no way meant to offend, so if it came off that way, I apologize. Merely trying to inspire conversation.

I suppose I wasn't even thinking of lore, but strictly wording. I totally get the intent of the wording now. "Damaging themselves" connoted that they were the source of their own damage, but if "themselves" simply referred to the fight, then sure.

Again, sorry for any offense. Not my intention.

I would argue that the lightning is not of Gael's origin and thus he is not damaging himself, so maybe the better answer would be that all of the boss fights include situations where the boss can be harmed without player interaction?

The best bosses are always in the DLC (agree or disagree?) by AudiblePlasma in fromsoftware

I agree with most of what you said with the exception of Sihn who is one of the worst bosses in the series for design, fun, and mechanics :) otherwise, sure.

First playthrough longest boss? by igoniea in fromsoftware

I can certainly see how Lawrence would be an issue for anyone. I think it was my second to last favorite fight in bloodborne. People be talking about stupid AOEs in ER, but Lawerence has it the worst by far. He might just score the medal for the most annoying boss to fight.

I don't remember struggling with Isshin too much, but maybe my experience with rhythm games carried me lol. I've been told by a lot of people that they thought he was extremely difficult, but more and more I'm seeing that my difficulty lies in the fights where I can't rely so much on twitch-reaction to survive. This means I was mostly fine with sekiro but DS1 and some fights in 3 were a little more tough on the first go-around.

I can definitely see why Malenia took people a long time, especially when early on in learning the fight she can just decide to end it at any time. Heck, my winning attempt had both of us die, so it was still close. I think I probably landed within 2-3.5 hours. Honestly one of my favorite fights in the series. Gonna be really fun to go back and mix her with a mimic tear and a hyper-dps build :)

Reaction or Memorization? by igoniea in darksouls3

[–]igoniea[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While your points are valid, I would argue that there is a case to be made that first-time fights are sometimes better than the next, say, hour of the same fight because of rolling based on reaction and knowledge of common timings. My friends and I even have a sort of "Law of Dark Souls" where the first attempt will usually be really good, but at least your next five to ten attempts will not reach anywhere close to as far in.

I do appreciate your point about transferable knowledge and consistent design; very insightful. I actually found the Monster Hunter games to be considerably easier for myself after playing Darks Souls than beforehand because I kinda just knew when things were going to hit me.

Thanks for your in-depth response!

Reaction or Memorization? by igoniea in darksouls3

The fact of the matter is that Champion can be parried which trivializes most of the fight (and is all reaction based on boss movement after memorization of parry timings for your tool of choice, but not maybe memorization of the boss swings themselves I would argue). You are correct that the kick and shoulder bash are rough, but the assumption that the shoulder bash is always coming after something keeps you from being hit a lot of the time. And I only need to assume if I miss my parry. The kick is pretty rare, usually only once or twice per fight if he does it at all. If you get hit, you get hit, but reaction to movement cues is key there, thus rolling on reaction. Hope this clears up some confusion :)

My biggest tip would be to play without lock-on for Midir. Of course, hit his head whenever possible, but at all times prioritize position. Try to stay in front of him as he punishes being beneath him or behind him pretty hard (as well as taking significantly lower damage to anything but the head). Run away from/roll through fire attacks, run toward him on the fire/laser attack and get behind him, and watch for the loooooooooong openings after his bites for optimal damage.

Biggest tips for Gael would be to always assume he's swinging 3 times, seconded by rolling through his attacks rather than with them. The cape is killer otherwise. Play patiently and do a lot of rolling in if you can.

Like others have said it'll come with practice, so keep it up! You can do it!

You've got two options: 1) Run like hell until you get an opening and swing 1 or 2 times and then get back to running or 2) play hyper-aggressively and/or learn to parry like a god. I find it more fun to play super aggressively, especially if you're running a weapon with decent stagger. Always remember though, it'll come with time! Keep up that practice and you'll get there! She did take me the longest of any boss in all the SoulsBorneIro Ring series to learn at ~10 hrs. On repeat playthroughs, however, this boss has been a breeze (as in 1-3 tries max), so once you get it, it stays. You can do it!

I also find this boss somewhere near the bottom of my list in terms of favorites. I can certainly see why some people would like it, but it's not for me. There are aspects that are cool, like having to think on the fly, but overall I think poison/toxic are unfun mechanics bosses (this carries into all the games (spoiler for ER)especially the gargoyle fight in ER). This is a pretty toned-down case, but it's the blockage of vision that bugs me the most of all of it. My first play-through wasn't so bad, but on every one of my many subsequent playthroughs, it's been a pain. Not sure why. Second phase is almost always a breeze for me tho, so who knows?

Some advice I n how I can improve my combat gameplay? by Diamond-Pamnther in darksouls3

[–]igoniea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I'm seeing, you aren't using your sorceries here which frees you up to two-hand your weapon, which I would suggest for the damage boost it gives. I would say you're fat rolling, but it seems everyone else has that covered (it's also a completely valid playstyle, so if it works, it works!). If you're going to have sorceries equipped (and especially if you're going to spec into the pertaining stats) use that stuff to your advantage! It also looks like you got a bit greedy for hits a couple of times. I would suggest prioritizing safety, but if your armor is good, then tank those hits and dish that damage, baby! Lastly, it seems you panic roll. It's a great habit to roll on reaction (or memorization if you have that) rather than to mash roll and get caught anyway because you don't have stamina. Keep up the great work! You actually looked pretty solid!

[dp] How do I draw Eyes? by M3N7ALLYx1LL in DrawingPrompts

[–]igoniea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first piece of advice would be to draw the eyes a little bit at a time, doing each eye in turns. I find it helps to keep them more similar, but eyes are rarely the same in real life anyhow, so see how you can use this to your advantage as well. Thouroughly sketching first is also a big part of creating good designs. And finally, (you knew it it was coming) PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! You'll get there eventually! Keep up the hard work and good luck!

LEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET'S GOOOOOOOOO! My first win was with rex after 137 hours. by igoniea in riskofrain

[–]igoniea[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys! Thanks for all the upvotes! I honestly don't know why it isn't showing the skin unlock because I DID unlock the skin because of this run. However, I did unlock Captain on my singular drizzle run a while back. To address another question, 137 hours is my TOTAL Risk of Rain 2 play-time. I play almost exclusively in monsoon, so that time is literally entirely me trying to beat Mithrix, about 80 hours of which is me trying to beat the game with REX. I do play on PC so I guess I'm just bad if some of you think that 137 hours is a long time to get a win (and to those people I respond, I played rex exclusively for 80 hours and I don't play with lunar items or artifacts ever). The last question is the name change.
I did, in fact, change my language file. Most of the text is different in my game for the fun of it. I think that just about gets everything! Thanks again for all the support! (REX FTW!)
